Broken ex mani stud... will it leak?

Son's engine is almost back together. He wanted to swap intake mani's - had a 2-pc and he wanted to put the correct 1-pc on the car (had a ported, powder coated 1-pc sitting in a box)

So I pull the int and exh mani's and one exh mani stud broke. Not a big deal, I pulled the mani off, clamped onto the exposed stud, fired up the torch and... ran out of oxygen. Crap. So in my final attempt I broke it off flush.

I went through my "collection" of exh. manis and picked one that is FLAT on both surfaces. Cleaned everything up real well and installed the mani's without the one stud.

    Will it leak?

Well it sure wont help. Have pulled many off that were leaking, but still ran good and didnt notice any noise before seeing. If your in a pinch, then you might as well give it a try

If you have the chance I would drill it out and tap/heli coil it now. It would suck to have to take the head off in a few months to fix it.

    It will probably leak.

    Ouch, sorry to hear that

+1 it will leak... if not at first, eventually, when the gasket is "aged" exhaust manifold pressure in a stock manifold is about twice the intake pressure

And I know you dont want to hear this (especially now) but unless that 1pc has a modified neck, it wont work as well as the 2pc ...

Agreed. Honestly, who care's about the "correct intake", the 2 piece is a far superior intake over the 1 piece,

Try to tell a 16 yr old that when the one-piece is powder coated and pretty.

Honestly, I'm not helping him build a rocket. Just running stock electronics at stock boost, etc.
