    89 Shadow, What Wheels?

Ok, so it's time for new shoes on my 89 Shadow (the red Competition Pkg car in my sig pic). The old Kumho tires are getty pretty dry rotted and showing their age. So getting new tires is my opportunity to also change out the wheels. Upgrading to 11" 4wheel discs before SDAC so also not afraid to show off the new brakes.

Right now it's got a set of 16" pumpers on it. They look ok from a distance but have a little curb rash and need paint. I have a few other sets and option 1 is to refinish a set of pumpers and go with new 16" tires on them.

Option 2, is to step down to a set of 15" centurion II's from an 87 CSX with new 205/50/15 tires (need tires for the CSX anyhow). Most cost effective approach, but not really what I want to do.

Option 3-5, is to go with a set of 17" aftermarket wheels. I like the look of a black mesh wheel with a polished lip, but when I try to picture the car with those I'm not so sure. I keep going back to simple looking 5-spoke wheels, either in silver or gunmetal. Right now my favorite are the ones on DJ's car, but I don't want to copy...

Option 6 is to say screw how it looks and go for a nice lightweight 15". Probably better for performance, but with the shadow looking so plain I think it needs something more.

i know its not an option, but how bout some 16" acr bbs wheels, good looks, light weight, and 16" will clear the big brakes. not sure if there 6.5 or 7" wide though? they dont have to be off of an acr either, i think the same ones came on some jettas too.

Thought about that as well, almost bought a set last year. Those seem to go for some decent money when they come up for sale, but I haven't ruled them out.

    Re: 89 Shadow, What Wheels?

Hey Dave I'm pretty much in the same boat. My 89 ES Shadow in need of tires as well. For the time being I threw on a set of Shelby catalog Lemans wheels. 15x6.5 with 40 mm offset. 225's on them. I think they look better on the Shadow than when I had these wheels on my SC. I'll try to snap a photo and post if this rain will ever stop. Coming down hard!
I was looking at these wheels for my Shadow. Discount tire sells these. Available is 15-17". Cheap, In fact too cheap! Made in China wheels just scare me. I want my 15X8" forged wheels back that are on Mike Mills lancer Shelby. Sold them to Quack when he bought my GLHS.

Okay, stopped raining. Here is a quick shot of lemans wheels on my 89 Shadow. Sorry Dave that's it's not red. Use your imagination.

Hey Dave, do you have any Shelby Lancer wheels in the boostcave? Lace wheels would look good

I do, but they belong to JT

I have a set of 16" lace wheels for the minivan, but they need to be refinished, and there are a lot of details on those wheels to deal try and clean, strip, sand, polish and paint.

I've got a set of straight 16" pumpers I could just sand and paint, or possibly see if Chris will part with the refinished Ninja's that are sitting in the barn. I've got pretty much at least one set of every factory 80's era mopar wheels around.

I am a fan of the lace, or BBS or the wheel above.

Some others are turboshads or similar. I like these ones too. The first one is a Konig SE10, I would love those for the van,

I think 16" pumpers would look the best, especially refinished. I used to have 15" CSS wheels on my '89 Shadow ES. I thought it looked good.

Not listed, but I would go for R/T red Snowfalkes.

My ex-GF once told me that the snowflakes on my red Spirit R/T made it look like the car was wearing leg warmers. It was one of the few times we actually agreed on anything.

I think that 15s look a bit small on the Shadow. What about 89 GTC lace 16" wheels? Or something else different, 2003-2004 Neon R/T 16" wheels. I like how the pumpers look on the car but I can understand wanting to change things up.

    I agree.

However, I stumbled upon these tonight:

    http://lincoln.craigslist.org/pts/1769254800.html

18"s are probably a bit much, but if I'm not mistaken, that's the correct bolt pattern. For that price it's almost too good to pass up . . .

Just thought I'd let you know.

It's about an hour south of me. If you're looking to get them, might want to double check the bolt pattern. Don't take my word for it.

    Re: 89 Shadow, What Wheels?

Holy crap that is a steal on those BBS wheels! Nice find Adam.

Simon be forewarned you may not be able to run the center caps on the front unless you do some serious cutting on the axles. Like nearly to the cotter pin hole. I had a set of BBS wheels on my driver last year and that was one of the reasons I got rid of them.
