    No front sway bar

Why would someone run super stiff springs in the front with no sway bar and a HUGE rear sway bar? I can't fathom why. Does fwd have anything to do with this type of setup?

My retired DM ran a Shelby Charger in SCCA from 88-92. He set his car up like this for best handling.

    Here's what Johnny says:

Seems it increases oversteer, which FWD tends to suffer from understeer so it is potentially upgrading handling.

Looks like my broken sway bar mounts actually helped my handling

    Re: No front sway bar

my guess is the sway bar links the two front wheels together, bumps on the right side influence the left side. Roll controll is handled by the bar and the softer springs give ride quality.

dump the bar and get a independent front end but no roll control, so you have to up the spring rate to make up for the missing sway bar but ride quality now suffers from the stiff springs

I remember this being discussed at length on Team Omni many years ago. Matt Green was on the stiff springs/no bar side, and I think it might have been Johnny on the opposing side. That was a long time ago though.

so how stiff should the springs be if not using a front swaybar?

    Re: No front sway bar

when I had hydraulics on my truck I ran no sway bar, no shocks, 2 ton coils in the front and 3/4 ton minicoils in the rear. I guess this really doesnt help your situation but going around a turn and drop the opposite side rear corner and I could pull the front wheel about 3 foot off the ground

I took off my sway bar once and drove it, ever seen a 1960's Cadillac lean while turning? Yeah it felt like that.

    Re: No front sway bar

my 73 dart sport /6 had no front bar. yea i know what you mean lol!

anyways, could there be a happy medium for street use? like a measly front swaybar, and stiffer-than-usual springs and get somewhat the same affect?
