    Another CUSTOM INTAKE!

    Here's my first intake....
    [IMG][/IMG]

I know its ugly but i'm pretty sure this next one will be better than my first but tell me what you guys think!

I need help figuring out how to make the elbow transition smoothly into the plenum to help keep the flow happy! Any ideas would be great! Thanx!

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

The stock plenum is weird and goes in front of the runners so instead of having it possibly mess up flow I capped it.

    [IMG][/IMG]

Anyone have ideas for the elbow to plenum transition???

Check and make sure it will clear the hood.

Not sure on what people will pay, put up a thread asking what someone would pay?

A large plenum is nice, but I would do something about the runners before you weld it together, 1 piece runners are horrible imo. Maybe shorten the runners to half of what they are now. I'll leave a link to my intake so you can see what the runners really look like, don't assume I'm saying this is how to build it, this intake hasn't been tried yet, it's just for the pics.

you want to use another elbow than the stock one, so i can take full advantage of a bigger throttle body

Shorten those runners to about 6" and you won't need such a high plenum cover. You may run into clearence issues if you leave as is.

Also, get rid of the original inlet. It closes up terribly near the exit.

    Here's what Crazy1eye and I did.

This is pretty much what I did to mine, except I didn't bother putting an elbow for the throttle body.

Why do you think it needs to be thicker?

out of curiosity why does it need to be that thick? I was talking to my fabrication instructor and he asked me why it needed to be so thick and I had no idea. The pressure really isn't high enough to need .25 aluminum and at that point you're just adding weight. As long as you use 3003 aluminum it should be good. I am looking at making in the class since I have access to all the fun tools. I might make some velocity stacks for the inside as well.

Think about 30psi of pressure over that much area. Then think about 20in of vacuum over that much area. Then think about it cycling back and forth from boost to vacuum thousands of times. Then add in thousands of thermal cycles.

Well its going into 1BADVAN's minivan so it has plenty of clearance!

That makes sense. How thick would you recommend? And what type of aluminum?

Are they horrible because they're so small or because they're long? Regarding torque/hp what would shortening the runners that much do?

Most turbo/blower style intakes are large plenum, short runners. I believe shortening the runners helps move the power band a little higher.

When we did ours, (about ten in total) other than trying to make a higher reving intake with short runners, it also made the runners easily accessible for porting.
