    Re: Laser XE coming back

Hmmm...after reading the sales propaganda about that headgasket, it seems to me that it could possibly expose weaknesses in the head deck. If that ring is supposed to expand when the engine runs, it HAS to exert more pressure in all directions. If the deck is weak, it could possibly slightly warp it causing the leak. There are also some metallurgical things to consider as well concerning the aluminum undergoing the heat and pressure, and if my thinking is along the right lines, also fatigue.

I wonder if you could do a contact pressure paper test on it, or maybe pressure paint of some kind to see what is really going on? I know you alluded to this type of testing being part of the reasoning for you using bolts instead of studs and also adding the bolts to the front of the head near the spark plugs.

    Re: Laser XE coming back

I have not heard anything positive about that Phuzion gasket for any cylinder head that has difficult to diagnoze sealing problems (aka, anything that usually needs to be O ringed). Actually never heard anything positive. Just people getting excited then getting let down.

I measured the sealing rings before install and after. They were properly and evenly crushed.
The problem is in my opinion, the fact that the rings have nothing to hold on to, they are just floating in the confines of the steel shim stack. But the biggest problem I see, and had concerns about when I first took them out of the package is the very narrowness of the shim stack between the cylinders. To make room for the sealing ring the shims have to be only aprox. .060 wide.
Oh well, you dont know till you try....whats $300 bucks now days anyway.

Reminds me, I broke one of my own rules....Dont fix it if it aint broke. Had planned to use the old tried and true 5 stack Cometic when I originally installed this head, got all mesmerized by the Phuzion sales hype and put up $300 bucks to have them make one. Got to stick to my instinct.

    Re: Laser XE coming back

Warren...you make me sick! LOL That is VERY nice!

I want to do an actual investigation into whether or not placing the airdam under the radiator support could possibly cause a pressure differential issue behind the intercooler causing a lower than optimal flow and maybe additional drag.

I've come up with a way to do this, but I have to complete a couple other projects before I can dive into that! I will let the whole community know my findings when I find out!

Attach a U tube water column manometer to your windshield, run one end of the tube in front of the IC/rad @ 90 degrees to air flow, the other end behind the rad. 90 degrees to air flow, drive car fast and report findings.

Sorry If I made you sick

Still trying to get that 9.99 on a 50 trim, Dont know if it is possible,(or why I even want to find out) but it is getting close, got some more tricks up my sleeve.

Highest I recorded in ten runs was 105 degrees, average for the weekend was 90, ambient temp. averaged 79.

I have a very efficient IC. On a couple passes Intake temps never exceeded 84 deg.
