That would also work just fine and looks nice.

I think I will just use a spacer instead of machining part as one piece. I was going to draw a small aluminum spacer and include it in the drawing but I guess I got tired and forgot.

For the prototype I can just use a stack of washers to test the fit. I actually considered cutting it out of the main piece to save material...

The cutout can then be drilled to make the spacer. (or I can just make some spacers out of round stock...)



It is MUCH cheaper to do 2D parts than 3D parts. There isn't any reason that the extra spacer has to be attached so I will just cut it separately and the bolt will hold it in place just fine.

I just made it teardrop shaped so it looked more like the stock part which I think people usually like.

Stock shape is not needed. You can't see the part once it is installed. Only time you will see it is when you take out the alternator or change the belt.

It is probably only a couple of dollars difference either way but here you go.




The spacer just goes on the back side and is clamped to the bracket by the tensioner bolt/nut. Much cheaper than machining it out of a single piece of 1" stock. The spacer is needed because the stock tensioner bolt is only partially threaded and the threads wouldn't reach the bracket without it.

I have the pieces back from the waterjet shop.

I just need to tap the hole that connects to the alternator and clean them up a little and we can test fit them. They look just like the last preview picture that I posted.

I made 4 prototypes so there should be a couple of them available next week as long as there are no issues.

After that I can make a run to cover everyone that wants them.

I didn't get an itemized bill for the pieces yet so I am not sure of the exact price on these yet but I will make it reasonable.

Harry is going to meet up with me after work and then he can test fit them.

From eyeballing them I am pretty confident that the prototype will work well.

I do plan on making one minor change to the shape of them so that I can more easily clamp them in the vise while tapping the threaded hole but unless Harry has more feedback that will be the only change.

I do only have a limited number of them right now for the prototype run (I only made 4 of them to test fit) so it will be another week or two before I can get them for everyone.

As soon as he gives the okay I will put them up on the website and order more of them...

I think it is pretty much any 89+ 8v common block engine. The only difference I have seen in them is that the older ones seem to use a M8 tensioner bolt and the newer ones use a M10 tensioner bolt.

The newer water pump uses this type of bracket to connect the tensioner bolt to the alternator. It is the part that connects to the bottom of the alternator.

You have an 'early' block. I'm not very familiar with the non CB engines but they use a different setup to tension the alternator, one that seems to be far more durable.

These work on 89 and newer 8V engines.

The only difference is that some of them have M8 bolts (top and bottom) and some have M10 bolts (top and bottom).
