    Alternator Tensioner Bracket

Does anyone know where I can get a new lower bracket for the alternator? It is the one with the rubber in it. The one I have is broken away from the center and is deteriated. 90 dodge shadow
    Or
Does someone have a good 1 for sale?
Where can I get liquid type rubber to make my own?
Does someone make a solid replacement?
Has anyone run into this problem before, and how did you fix it?

    Re: Alternator Tensioner Bracket

Yea the 88+ alternator brackets suck... I have considered making a solid billet one. It would probably cost $30 or so if I skipped putting a bushing in it.

I know that a couple of people were interested but it has been low on my list.

$37 is not terrible typical dealer price

    Thats their price.

most dealers on walk-in over the counter sales will charge full msrp + a certain percentage they choose. could easily double or triple the cost

Thank you for all the input. Part number really helps too. I do need 1, so if I can't get 1 new, I'll take you up on your offer.
Has anyone tried 3m window weld to make your own?
I also found some other type of rubber, but at that price I could buy a new one and be done with it. 3M window weld is cheap though.

I've asked Johnny if he could help out, but didn't think that it was worth the bother. That and probably have to have some sort of exchange program. Poly would be a nice upgrade for sure!

I really think johnny should start putting poly in it....OH and another thing is, the bolt thread is wrong...Didn't match up to my 89 daytona one...had to put a bolt threw and put a nut on it for now...

    Re: Alternator Tensioner Bracket

I went to the junkyard over the weekend to find one. And I came across the same problem. I must've pulled at least 6 brackets until I found 1 that wasn't cracked badly and it the best 1 turned out to be for a smaller bolt set-up, so back to 5 other cars to find 1 with big bolt set-up and wasn't bad. Still has crcks, but not like original. 15 dollars worth should last me a couple months until someone comes up with a solid bracket fabrication or poly insert.

    Re: Alternator Tensioner Bracket

Ok I can make some solid ones if you guys want them.

I made the larger OD a little smaller because there is no need for it to be that big if it isn't rubber filled.

I will just cut them with the 8mm hole and we can easily drill them to 10mm.

A simple 1/2" 6061 piece should work just fine and would be probably $20 or less plus shipping.

As long as it is used with some self locking nuts on the back sides of it we can keep it simple and cheap.

The rubber pieces are kind of ridiculous anyway. The neon and stratus brackets don't have any bushings in them...

I know Harry wanted one and he is local to me so perhaps he can test out the prototype.

    Damn Rich,

If I had an 8 valve, I'd order one,

Thats funny rich...yesterday i basicly drew the same thing up...but i was about to map it... to make it preatty... when autocad poped an error...and me being smart didn't save my work...lol...damnit...

But yea..i don't see a need for that with rubber in it...what kind of shock is it seeing? If the motor rockes so does it....

I want two, but I have one fully functional car I can test the prototype on.

    Re: Alternator Tensioner Bracket

Ok I am adding it to my waterjet order. I will probably have prototypes in a week.

I had looked into this in the past but without an 8v engine it is hard to mock it up. I think I was making it too complicated before this should be simple and work just fine.
