89 van.. 4" lug pattern swap to 4.5"????

89 voyager. im looking for the rear axle tube at junk yards and they keep asking if it's 4 or 4.5 bolt pattern. if i get the hubs off a van with 4.5 i can press them in the front bearings and swap out the rears right? new rotors up front and new drums in back obviously... should i grab the whole set-up and bolt it to the rear axle tube and just grab the whole front knuckles? i have a set of 15" black steelies that were on my jeep i think they'd look pretty mean on a minivan hahaha 4.5" back spacing on a 7 or 7.5" wheel so they shouldnt stick out.

anyone do the swap to the 4.5 lug pattern?

    thanks,
    nick

I had to swap out my rear axle tube last year due to rust. I have a 88 van and got one from a 92, same axle. My rear drums bolted right up to the new axle. That was good because my rear brakes were new! So the simple swap would be to just unbolt your brakes and swap the axles out.

Wow, no such thing as 4 and 4.5 in 89, its 5x100 or 5x115" or close enough.

It doesn't matter what one you get, just reuse your old drums and hubs, its as simple as that. Your looking for a 1st and 2nd gen axle.

5x4.5 ~= 5x114 (they hubs can fit the same wheels)

I agree there is no 5x4 though but 100mm is ~3.94"

I can see how people would measure them as such if checking with a tape.

    they are just measuring wrong

if you have a shorty van then you have the small bolt pattern, honestly just go out to the yard with a battery powered grinder, cut the Ubolts and you will have an axle out in like 5 minutes

i know they're 5x100 just when it comes to wheels im a jeep guy so i tend to go to standard sizes by accident lol my bad sorry. but can i swap to the larger lug pattern? im guessing pull the 4 bolts off the rear axle and bolt up a whole spindle/backing plate from a van with the larger bolt pattern, and just use the whole front steering knuckles too?

Yes on the rear axle part. I thought the fronts were bolt on hubs? Swap the smaller hubs with the larger ones.

Van's with the large hubs have 11" front brakes, the knuckles are one piece meaning the caliper ears are part of the knuckle and the wheel bearings are a bolt on unit, so to change bolt patterns, you take some 89+ car bearings and bolt them in, run some 11 car rotors or redrill the van ones.

I already told you in my reply that you simply swap the drums.

Re: 89 van.. 4" lug pattern swap to 4.5"????

For 1989...the vans with 14" OE rims weew 5x100 while those with 15" OE rims were 5x114.

I have seen a couple of 5x100 Neons use Stockton Wheel 5x4" Rallye rims on them. A lot of GM guys that have the 5x115 bolt pattern use 5x114 Ford or Jeep rims.

My 2001 Caravan has had Mustang GT bullitt rims on it before I sold it to my Dad. He gave it back to me with 15s on it so I will now put on a set of Jeep Wrangler rims that I sell so I can keep the 15" tires.
