84' Rampage SMEC and 2.5L Turbo

Those who dont know me, ill let you know i am Nissan at heart, but have been through my fair share of vehicles, 2 240's, a Rodeo, a Taurus, had a CRX at one time, a Sidekick, and as much as i back my nissans up, i decided i would change my pace and go with a mopar. I'm still learning quite a bit about all of this Turbo Dodge stuff, but so far what ive learned has impressed me quite a bit, if any of you know me well enough you know that i love torque, and these little dodges have plenty of it. well thought i would share what it is, but adding this for legal reasons, the vehicle is actually Jovan's but i will probably be the one driving it and working on it if it ever breaks. although so far thanks to Gabe(CSX153), for helping get this thing as far as it is already.

Vehicle is as follows, 84' dodge rampage, originally carb'd 2.2 now has a 2.5 common block Turbo motor from an 89' van, 555 trans, manual rack swap. SMEC electronics coversion, with 87' GLHS interior (dash, underdash wiring, seats, door panels), 87' GLHS front end, doors, and skirts. 5 lug conversion, i believe from a 87' glhs, with neon srt-4 wheels.

does still need work, but if all goes as planned it should be running, the end of this week.

here is what it looked like when it ran in cali before the paint and 5 lug conversion.

here is pictures when we first started tearing into it, the only thing you cant see is the rats nest of wiring under hood that we ripped out before i snapped pics.

after a little bit of work, also note that when we got it, the bed was full of TD parts that needed to be removed.

here are the most recent videos I have, It finally runs!

well, since its the GF's car she wants to see it mostly a track car, and since thats not my style i would like to have it be a nice DD/weekend warrior with all the trinkets for that year as kind of like an awe factor. that also when it pulls up to the light against other cars or neon SRT owners(here in utah 90% of them are flamin deuchers) i want to show them that it packs a mean punch and to teach the neon owners where their FWD turbo 4 originated from.

as far as we are if anyone could direct me to a link or thread where it shows what needs to be modified for the van engine harness to work with this would be greatly appreciated. also, where the wire will need to be spliced under dash for the fuel pump.

Hey! I'm in WVC and would love to get together and compare notes. I've been rebuilding a 84 Rampage. It's up on ramps right now getting the tranny hooked back up. Interior just needs the seats put back in. I bought a 89 Lebaron with the 2.5 turbo that I would like to eventually put in the rampage body looks like crap, but engine runs good.
    Thanks

thanks much, i know they never came with an electric one, but this rampage ran before someone got ahold of it, and decided to play i can make things better by destroying stuff. so now i have to find out which pump was used or if the just swapped in an entire gas tank from a turbo L-body.

so your putting all the 2.5L stuff in the rampage, or just doing a stock rebuild?

Re: 84' Rampage SMEC and 2.5L Turbo

well we made progress today, started splicing in pins from the 89 van bulk connector into the 87 bulk connector. removed some useless stuff, if i can get a scanner i will post up what wires need to go where for this to work, I am not 100% sure if this will work but I am very confident it will. although, i have some questions for the 87 bulk connector, there is 1 pin that I cant find out where it goes since they show they are available on the 89 but no the 87. on the 87 bulk connector pin location 9 says fuel pacer lamp, but on the van bulkhead pinout i cannot find this, what exactly is it? also there is 4 different places i can put the wiper motor pins, do they have to go in a specific pin location, maybe color will match? same with the ignition circuit pins? the last pin i cant find on the van pinout is the 6 location which is splice-charging circuit, alternator.

found one more pin on the 89 that does not show on the 87, on the van pinout chart it shows a headlamp switch, but on the 87 it does not exist, anyone know where this pin would go?

made some more progress, over the weekend we got the new doors installed, and working correctly(old doors had door poppers installed). Installed the new seat rail since the old one had been hacked up to install some different seats. yesterday we had to repin some bulkhead connectors so they would match up since we are using a 89 turbo van engine harness and 87 GLHS dash harness, have more pics coming but heres just 1 showing the mess we had goin on.

The little man also likes to know that he's helpin out!

i think its for the upshift light that alot of 80's cars had. you dont need it.

Re: 84' Rampage SMEC and 2.5L Turbo

alright bumping this up, now i have a question as well. i scrapped the SMEC idea for now, because i couldnt get the darn thing to crank or fire or anything, so i swapped to an 86 shelby charger engine harness, and boom, finally it cranks, now i have to get an injector harness for the SC wiring harness and wire in the ignition coil, since its the one that bolts to the thermostat housing, but i now have a question.

is there a positive and a negative side to this type of ignition coil, and do i just use the positive and negative wires from the SC style coil, extend them and use the plug for the newer coil and its as easy as that?

Re: 84' Rampage SMEC and 2.5L Turbo

The SMEC shouldn't have been that hard, its almost plug and play.

As for the new coil, yes, it has a + and -, find the plug and then splice it into the harness.

It would have been easier of course if you had the Mopar special tool for '85-'94 FWD wiring harnesses ....

DD1: '02 T&C Ltd, 3.8 AWD. DD2: '15 Versa Note SV, replacing.. DDx: '14 Versa Note SV << freshly killded :( ....... Projects: '88 Voyager 3.0, Auto with shift kit, timing advance, walker sound FX muffler on 15" pumpers wrapped in 215/65/R15 H rated Nexens.... and a '95 phord escort wagon PnP head << Both may need to go :( ..... I like 3.0s ... so??? ... stop looking at me like I've got two heads!
