    Question L-body wiper arm bushings

Anyone know the trick to replacing these? I've tried both the Mopar OEM and some of the aftermarket bushings and am having two problems--

    1. When I push the linkage shaft into the bushing, the ridge inside the bushing is galling/distorting, making for a bad fit. The bushing will not turn freely on the shaft.

    2. One of the four bushing on the wiper linkage is on a shaft that appears to be staked/peaned together to the arm that connects to the motor, making it inaccessible. How were there replaced by the dealers?

    Appreciate any help--thanks.

Can you post any pictures of what your talking about. I've replaced them before and haven't had any problems. You might want to try spraying them with silicone spray to help slide them together. It is a tight fit.

Question Re: L-body wiper arm bushings

Don't have any pics right now.

There are four bushings involved, one has a hole all the way through and attaches on the crank arm shaft near the motor.

Problem is that all of the bushings seem to fit way too tight, and in pressing them back onto the pivot shafts the ridge inside the bushings either gall (deforms), or in one case, cracks and breaks.

I've tried both silicone lube and white grease during assembly, no luck.

Any suggestions? Maybe warm them up with a heat gun? Should these bushings be rock-hard, or have I been getting some old stock?

Last, in regards to the #4 bushing (mentioned above), how is this replaced? The crank arm shaft seems to be peaned/staked together. Shop manual has been of little help--

    Re: L-body wiper arm bushings

I've always just slipped them onto the shaft/post, then used channel locks and silicon grease to get the arm over the bushing.

Question Re: L-body wiper arm bushings

It's the "slipping them onto the shaft" that's not working out here--I don't know if I'm getting some old-stock bushings or what.

Also, how does the crank-arm shaft come apart to replace that 4th bushing--
