    4dr L-body headliner

Does anyone make a replacement headliner for 4 door L-bodies?

My cloth part is in pretty good shape, and not sagging, but the backing is falling apart from old age. I have it out right now and it's very flimsy and easy to chip, crack, bust, etc.

Nobody makes a replacement board for these cars. There are replacements for alot of GM's.

I usually repair old boards by gluing a non stretch fabric to the cracked area such as denim. Then sometimes a couple layers of epoxy is needed to stiffin it up some more. Since headliner material has foam on the back side it hides what ever repairs you make.

Dont use any type of tape because gravity works against it with the heat of the sun and the adhesive will undo its self.

Are you gluing the denim on the backside, or underneath the cloth, or both?

What type of glue are you using?

    Thanks for the help!

Both sides of the headliner. I also try to glue the crack, or broken pieces together first. It usually takes a few layers of material to get the board sturdy again. I use weldwood landau top and trim adhesive. 3m also makes a similar product. Its comes in 1-gallon, or 5-gallon cans and will last about a year on the shelf so its good to invest in a gallon if your doing any interior work. Its about 25/gallon, and you need to spray it out of a regular gun.

There is a "Heads-Up" brand available at Pep Boys that has a light grey color that was very close for my car. I know they have red, blue, etc. I would give that a shot and she if you can get something to work.

I remember the kit being pretty inexpensive - it's just the fabric and the foam backing together.

No backboard though? That's the part I really need.

yeah...my car was leaking at the roof seam at one time, and it made the board sag so much that when I pushed it back up, it cracked, and fell down in a bunch of pieces...lol

So...I'm in the same boat. And, everyone I've ever seen in the junkyard is the same way. Ugh.

    L-body blues.

i used Elmers construction glue to attached 1/8" thick aircraft plywood to the top side of my backing board to take out the sagging. The extreme stiffness of the plywood forced the backing board flat and straight, the repair should last forever.

Found a good one at the yard, right color, good fabric, good/not sagging hardboard too. Grabbed the roof reinforcement bar out of that car too. Now, with a second reinforcement bar installed, I can use two "trees" to hold the "new" headliner up. Put some of that whatdyacallit anti-noise black goo/foil stick on stuff on the underside too, hope it doesn't fall down . . . .
