You should check to see if JT has any pics of his up on the site. He has the fuel cell in the spare tire compartment of his Daytona. He is also running a 2.4. His user name is badassperformance.

I've got an 8 gallon cell in the apre tire well of my Daytona. I'll take some pics if you want. I think you'd have a hard time getting a 16 gal cell in the spar tire well...

RJS 8 gal works nice in the well, no way a 16 gal squared cell will fit.....w/ the 8 gal u'll need to cut a 3 sided rectangle out the bottom of the well.....so the sump will clear...amd it act like a lil skid plate....

Re: Fuel Cell in a Daytona

If using a plastic cell it needs to be sheilded on all sides... the bottom for track debris and the top is a firewall cuz its a hatchback. Pics of mine attached

Speaking of this what material is required for the "firewall", like thickness/gauge or any input on track rules

Re: Fuel Cell in a Daytona

I just checked the NHRA rule book and it mentiones a firewall in the fuel section but does not specify material or thickness... the firewall section states:

...minimum 0.032" aluminum or 0.024" steel firewall
Regarding the cell mounting, I also found this:

Fuel Cells located outside body and/or frame must be enclosed in a steel tube frame constructed of minimum 1 1/4" OD x 0.058 chomoly or 0.118 mild steel tubing.
Which is probably why I kept the spare tire well...

I managed to mount mine without cutting the floor at all. I'll unload the race boxes from the hatch on the Daytona and send some pictures...

spare tire well is gone and im going to start building a frame to go in the top to mount the cell to then it will be covered with .025 aluminum with a trap door in the middle to fill it with,I will also build and aluminum box around the botom at a later date but in the next few days ill post pictures up of this project.

Re: Fuel Cell in a Daytona

Its all welded up out of 2 inch angle and the cell fits great, also built a cage around the botom of the cell with the same 2 inch angle and will cover in steel and aluminium(steel on the botom)

All has changed with the mount now sure to some clearence issues the cell its still in there but is now 6 inches higher and beter enclosed with a stronger skid plate at the front edge, also a floor has been built over it that the speaker box is part of so it all looks like its supose to be there. Will post pics when I get it all done....
