    tall deck 2.5

How much higher are they than a common block and will they fit in a spirit? Are they really worth having? Only reason I am asking is a friend is scrapping a 88 caravan that was wrecked years ago. I am not sure how long its been sitting but the odometer reads approx 60K ( It has the extra digit for 100K). I dont know the condition of the engine since its been sitting for years. Not sure if its worth grabbing before it gets sent to the yard. LMK

IMHO, they are only worth having if you plan to throw a 2.2 crank in it and run long rods.

Somebody else may know better than me, but I think they may require some tall-deck specific accessory bracketry.

They are .470 inch taller, or just under 1/2". Unless you are planning on buying a set of custom rods, I would not bother. What you gain in better rod ratio over the CB 2.5, you lose in rod strength. The tall deck rods are longer rods and LW design compared to the 2.5/TII/TIII/TIV CB rod. Yes the block will fit in a Spirit.

    Re: tall deck 2.5

    Thanks for the info.
I was not sure, that's why I asked. I thought about grabbing it and cracking it open to see what kind of condition it is in with the low mileage as a spare 2.5 TBI for my spirit, but then again with it sitting for years ( my guess is 10 + years ). It may not be any good. As a matter of fact I still think the original battery is under the hood. Has anyone ever ran an engine that has sat for so long?

Just out if curiosity did the tall deck 2.5's have a fuel pump block off plate? This engine does.

Yes, the tall deck 2.5's have the block off plate. I think only the common blocks were without mechanical fuel pump provisions.

Look thru the bores or take the head off,

Yep, tall decks are like a hybrid, part CB, part non CB.

If your going for balls out power and better rod ratio, get a TD, if not, just install it as is or sell it.

I wanted to do a nice 2.5 TD TIII but of course, money is always a problem,

    Re: tall deck 2.5

I have no plans to use it for making any power as I have common block turbo motor spares for my turbo cars. If I was to use it, it would be a spare for my TBI motor in my spirit.

The only part non-common about it is the fuel-pump block-off plate and the deck height. The rest is the same as a CB...

Exactly, a hybrid, and don't forget the crank snout if you use the stock crank,
