    VW 2.0 question

Got a 99 beetle with the 2.0 sohc 8v engine. Leaking headgasket so were going to be doing a quick single day changover by dropping the head from our wrecked 98 beetles engine onto this one.

Felpro lists a MLS permatorque headgasket. The oem headgasket looks like it was a mls gasket also.

Is the felpro HG safe to use or do I need to be prepared to get my wallet raped at the dealer for an oem hg ? I only ask because of felpro's less than steller track record with our engines and since this VW engine looks strikingly similar in design to our 2.2/2.5 I am left wondering if the same problems will result.

    Thanks.

V8 guys swear by felpro. From what I've seen, our engines were their biggest faux pas. I've installed a Felpro HG on a 450 whp DSM, and it held just fine. I don't know any specifics, but I would imagine their MLS is a perfectly good gasket.

Fel Pro MLS gaskets work just fine. I personally think the idea of those not working on our cars is attributed mostly to myth and bad preparation. How many of us actually deck the head each time we do a HG job?

I was hoping the question would be "do 2.0 vw motors suck".. but since it is not, all i can say is have fun! I did a 1.8T beetle head replacement and it was a PITA. Hopefully the 2.0 doesnt have nearly that amount of plumbing stuffed in

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

VW's do suck and thats all I have to say.

This engine is fairly simple. of course theres the usual stupid VW crap but its similar to our 8v engines.

What pissed me off by doing a VW headgasket was the freakin torx bit head bolts. Its Like WTF,I have to buy a $20-$30 special socket to do one headgasket.Timing belt IMO was pretty easy.

    Oh yeah that thing

when I first pulled the VC and was like WTF?! when I saw those bolt heads, then I remembered from a prevoise round of repairs that I already had that stupid thing on the shelf.

I checked and felpro's replacement bolts are the same way.
