    03 pt turbo question

Guy I work with has a 03 pt turbo with a bad turbo. What is the best route to fix it? New, used or rebuilt? Any good walk thru on how to replace it?

The unique Chrysler turbofolds used on the Neon SRT-4 and PT Cruiser are half turbocharger and half exhaust manifold. While most standard turbochargers utilize a turbine housing to direct the gasses around the turbine wheel, Chrysler's latest exhaust manifold design actually has provisions on it to accept the turbine wheel and cartridge assembly. The two components are joined together via a single clamp.

Our Turbo rebuild process includes complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection and replacement of all internal wear items including bearings and seals. If a component is out of tolerance and does not fall within the manufacturer's and our stringent specifications it is replaced. All the original wear items (bearings, seals, etc.) and any unuseable components will be returned to you in the package with your completed turbo/turbofold.

Rest assured, we will do everything within our power to save you money. If parts of your turbo are usable we will discount the core price based on what is reused. Based on what we see during the disassembly, we may even provide you with your TurboCharger's Failure Analysis results and recommend the replacement of certain components on your vehicle which may have contributed to your original turbocharger's failure.

Our turbochargers are backed by a FULL One Year Warranty. A New Mopar oil supply line purchase ($30.) is required in order to validate the Warranty.

We offer many options for turbo repair or replacement. If it's rebuildable we charge $350. This includes cleaning up and inspecting your exhaust manifold as well. If there are damaged compressor/turbine fins we will provide the parts required to get everything working again at a minimal cost to our customers. Worst case scenario it would be an additional $250. for a core charge. See here:

If the customer prefers a new turbo cartridge we can provide one from Mitsubishi for $800. with no core required. If you send us your original turbofold we will disassemble, inspect, clean the components and re-assemble the complete turbofold using the new cartridge.

If you go to the Chrysler dealer you might spend close to $2,200 for a new turbofold. The dealers do not sell the cartridge assembly and exhaust manifold separately. TU purchases NEW SRT-4 and PT Cruiser TD04LR turbofolds in large quantities direct from Chrysler in order to get a significant discount. We then offer these NEW Chrysler units to our customers for $1,750:

We also separate and sell the NEW Chrysler exhaust manifolds and compressor housing with TD04LR cartridges separately here:

    New Mopar Exhaust Manifolds:

We can also assist him with tech advice should he need help with the R&R.

Do you know how bad the failure was? Are there any rattling noises coming from the turbo? Any smoke from the exhaust?
