    Intermediate shaft Inspection & repair

I Unfortunately found out that the timing belt on the R/T i just bought is way loose and prob has been for the last 16k miles when the belt was last changed. I have seen that loose belts causes intermediate shaft failure. I would like to tighten it up and also check out the bearing to see the wear. If it is bad what is the best way to replace the bearing? & what do i look for on the shaft for signs of damage?
    Thanks!

The bearings are pressed into the block. use a bearing driver or socket and extension to drive them out. Install the new ones paying close attention to verify the oiling holes are lined up. closely check the condition of the teeth, if there very worn or damaged then you need a new one.

Pull the pan and oil pump, inspect the teeth for damage, IE starting to wear thru the out hardening, if you see it, junk.
