Neon Shifter cables compatibility?

Hey i know that some neon shifter cables work for some of our trannys. But which year neons and which of our transmissions?

I have a 568 and i was wondering which year of neon I should be looking for in the Junk yard! Any info would be great!


And if someone has all this info maybe it could be a future KC article!

They are of the same style/design as used from the factory on the 1990+ transmisssions. 523/543/568





Pictures I took awhile back showing the difference. The top (broken) cable was the stock selector or front/back cable from my P body. The other selector cable was removed from a 1995 Neon. The amount of throw/movement between the two is very similar if not the same ? Its been awhile since I've compared them.

One difference between the two cables but one thats easy enough to work around is the older Tm/Td cables use individual grommets/seals where they pass through the floor. The Neon ones pass through the floor in a large rubber boot.

And also something else to add. The Cloud cars: Stratus & Breeze also use the same cable setup as the Neon. just another donor to add to the list.

I believe 2000 up are slightly longer than the 95-99.I used a 2nd gen set on my old Turbo Neon to move the cables away from the 3 inch DP.

are the neon cables the same length over all?
i want shorter cables for my p body

Actually I have heard a lot of reports that one of the Neon cables doesn't have enough travel to work with a 568...

I have considered getting some and modifying them with rod ends though.

One of the neon cables is physically too short to work with the 523/543/568. The cable tube is the right length but the cable inside is too long. Neon cables can be used if you modify the mount on the transmission for the cables. I have 2001 neon shifter and cables in my Spirit.

Good info.

The other option is to cut the end off from the cable and put a shorter rod end on it. I haven't tried it yet but it should work.
