    16v titanium spring retainers

I'm going to be doing some work on my r/t and while it's apart I want to throw in a set of titanium spring retainers.

Anyone have any that they want to part with?

    Thanks!

    Re: 16v titanium spring retainers

    Stranger things have happened.

All it takes is someone like the guy in St. Louis to buy them for a rebuild and then change their mind. One of the van guys had a set they weren't going to use afterall on a conversion a year or so ago too, so it's worth asking.

    Still looking...

Cindy offers budget retainers. They are the same dimensions as the TI retainers so you get most of the benefits without the price of TI. There just stock retainers cut down.

Stock retainers cut "down" to increase the installed heights? (not sure how as it would then be paper thing)

Or are you making your own from new material?

How will stock retainers increase the installed heights some .080" when they are roughly about that thick to begin with?

They are plenty thick enough to remove .070" where the spring sits.

.070 is just about 1/8 of an inch. i checked with my digital caliper the other day to see exactly what .070 looks like then measure how far the caliper arms apart were with a ruler. 1/8" (abou 1.5mm). thats not that bad of an amount off the stock t3 retainers.

    ???

    an 1/8th inch is .125"

Personally, I don't care for the idea of thinning out that area... but I haven't my mic here with me to see how much material is left after removal.... so maybe I'll keep quiet for now

You should keep quiet, Jackson has them on his DD, no issues and its been at least 6 months, IIRC.

I'd like to put them on mine but they are a critical piece. Anyone worried about them breaking and droping a valve? Stockers cut down worry me, the were that thick for a reason. Also I was never an aftermarket parts fan, dont really have a good reason, just the way I feel. Some feedback from people that have use Ti ones would help. would consider to prolong the TIII.

Couldnt the hole just be machined a little deeper to get the same effect?

    Re: 16v titanium spring retainers

no i measured it out, its an 1/8 of an inch just about. go check for yourself. And yea its been working fine for jackson and others. If factory didnt make such stiff springs we wouldnt need to do it. like ever perf car, we all come up with alterations. people have been doing different options for cars since the beginning of theit existance.

    +1.

I spent some time measuring last week and Steve's right, machining down the area at the spring .070" would leave the spring perch very thin (if that's how it's being done) at the edges where the spring actually rides. Machining out the hole a bit more would raise the retainer, but the only worry I have would be that the lock would then stick out a bit below the lowest portion of the retainer. Probably not worth worrying about, but it is a concern.

See my last post on testing.

Your not a fan of aftermarket parts?

You better sell your TIII then as your going to need alot of aftermarket parts to keep her running.

The reason for the Ti retainers is to lower the spring tension, they are too strong from the factory.
