tires for SRT4 wheels?

Ive picked up some SRT4 wheels and now im looking to buy some tires for my Spirit RT. i know people have ran these wheels with no problems i just want to verify that a 205 50 17 will in fact fit without rubbing? i plan to run a 215 45 to be safe anyways but knowing a 50 will fit makes me feel better. anyone?

205/50/17 is a little too tall for a Spirit. I would stay with 215/45/17.

205/50/17 should be within 1/4" overall height of the 205/60/15 that came stock on Spirits with 15" wheels.

215's are really too wide for a 6" wheel IMHO.

The 215/45/17s I have are on 7" wheels...but I don't see 215 on a 6" wheel being that big a deal, even thought the handling might not be as great as it could be most people would probably never notice the difference.

The difference between 205/50/17 and 205/60/15 is almost 1/2 inch. I would still opt for the 215/45/17 which is about .1" shorter than than stock.

Yup, the NSRT4 wheels are 17x6. An oddball size for sure.

You'd be suprised at the extra slop you feel with a wider tire on that wheel.

I upgraded the wheels on my SRT-4 to 17x7's and kept the 205/50's and was rewarded with much crisper and consistent response.

Ray's car does sit a little high when parked next to other R/Ts despite having Eibachs on it. But when it's not parked next to others you don't notice it because the wheel wells are filled out nicely.

A local friend of mine has 215/50/17s on the stock wheels on his SRT4, and I was very suprised how much they bulge out with just the 10mm increase. The shop that mounted them was only able to get two done, and told him to take the tires somewhere else to have the other two mounted because they were such a fight.

I'd use 205/50s personally.

thats my kid posting up top, steer him in the right direction!

So we want to fill the wheelwell, need traction off line and not afraid of a little sidewall for ride quality. Not a Ferrari, suggestions for an Spirit R/T all apreciated!

If you have your heart set on the SRT-4 wheels, i still strongly suggest the 205/50.

But the SRT-4 wheels really are not great wheels when you think about how narrow and heavy they are.

I'd sell them and get some 7" wide wheels with some 225's

Ray's car does sit a little high when parked next to other R/Ts despite having Eibachs on it. But when it's not parked next to others you don't notice it because the wheel wells are filled out nicely.

I have Yokohama S-Drives on the R/T, 205/50R17. They are pretty decent for traction aside from snow & ice; they suck on those roads. Decent ride, good traction in 1st gear with prudent use of the go pedal and they are sssssooooooo much quieter than the KDWs that came with the rims. There is some slight rubbing on the left side at full lock on right turns.

I had 225/50/16 on my Spirit R/T for a long time on some lace wheels (16x6) from a Lebaron. They were definitely too wide a tire for that wheel because the sidewall bulged out a little, but I always thought they just looked too big for the car. So later on I got 17x7 wheels and went with a 215/45/17 and I think they go perfectly on the car and are almost exactly the same diameter as the stock 205/60/15. I guess I had always assumed the SRT wheel was also 17x7 but since it's only 6" wide then maybe a 205/50/17 would be best overall. A lot of it is personal preference though; it always bugged me when it looked like my car had a too big of a tire on it.

Find the guy at the local Mazda dealer that does tires. If hes like my guy, he'll sell really nice takeoffs for $10 each. They are the same size as OEM NSRT4.
