    A-555 teardown problem

I have done this before, but I can't remember how to get 5th gear out. The circlips are removed, the 2 pins/bolts are out of the top, have a look at the pictures, but I can't remember how this comes off.

Please help if you know how. I have the shift pads worn off the 3-4 rail and that's the reason for teardown.

Use a gear puller or gently pry evenly under 5th gear and it should come of the input shaft. That is how I got mine off.

Edit: You mean the shift fork? It should come out with the rod. That is how mine came apart. Take that off first and you can get 5th off.

Yes, I mean the fork. Once it's out, I can get the ring back on the synchro assembly, pull the other 5th gear and take the end plate off and be on my way.

The fork is supposed to come with it's rod? The rod is supposed to slide out of the piece in the top picture? I can't remember the name of it.

Sorry, I had the wrong part. The 5th gear shift fork should come off the shift rod. I can't remember if it is a bolt or roll pin that holds it on. You will need to add some encouragement to the shift fork to get it moving.

The 5th gear shift fork is held on with a small allen headed bolt, aprox 2-4mm, can't remember what size. You can see it in pic #2.

    Thank you. It was 3mm.

Still sort-of on topic - Does anyone have a good source of shift fork pads? Still available at the dealers?

I have some spares if you don't need to buy a kit.
