    Transmission ID

I've got a 1984 Chrysler Laser, 2.2 Turbo 5 speed. Could use some help on how to ID what type of transmission is in it and what kind of shifter I need. Having issues with present shifter...may need to replace.

    Thanks
    Brian

    Re: Transmission ID

If original it should be an A525.

Probably not the shifter but the cable ends are shot. Usually the ones on the trans go first. Look under the throttle body and airbox down by the trans and see if they look loose or beat up.

If it is the original 5 speed, it will be an A-525. There is supposed to be a round tag on top of the trans, near the front.

Was hard to get into 5th gear, if I pushed the shifter just right I could get it into 5th. Kind of felt like the "gate" in the shifter wasnt opening...all other gears were fine. I got used to it and drove the car for 6+ months this way....then last Friday I back car into drive way and it got stuck in R, got it out of R and now she is stuck in 5th.

Check the cables first... could be the cable ends or cable adjustment

...or shift fork pads, or a bent shift fork
