do what others have done...and go distributorless

And...yes the bottom end is forged...minus the pistons. Stock pistons are cast.
Also...IIRC, the pistons in the n/a motors are even dished...so...there you go. they're only 8.5:1 n/a...the turbo motors are 7.5:1.
A matter a fact...I almost crapped myself when I saw that the turbo 2.2s, stock, were 8:1...lol Dodge was a little risque on that one...but, it paid off aparently.

So if the bottom ends are forged... does that mean noone has broken a rod with power? Whats the highest dyno plot on one of those? I think ive seen in the 400s whp on one of the forums, but id like to know for sure if it was stock rods..

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

rods have been broken before...just like anything else...

But...the most power ever recorded out of a 2.6 was somewhere around 800...but, then again, that was an all out race motor.
The stock bottom ends can take a lot of abuse though. Most guys only mess with the top end...maybe pistons and knife edging the crank...but, its mostly intake/exhaust stuff.

Well if the stock rods can handle 400+whp id call them just as good as our t2 rods.

    What about non-turbo rods?

Paul, it didn't have to do with the 2.6 engine so much as it did with the idiotic 81-85 K car cluster. No temperature gauge, oil psi gauge, or individual lights... just a light that says ENGINE. I saw that come on and figured it was something stupid until I heard the sounds of a very unhappy engine and realized that the ENGINE light on that old K car meant death instead of electronic failure like a newer car.

As for swapping the 2.6 to a factory turbo setup, I would stick with Vigo's idea of it being as basic and simple as I could. It was a $175 van... so cheap is king and if it gave it at least similar performance to my 3L V6 van I would be happy... plus having a turbo charged van is awesome no matter how you look at it. The old van I have too besides a little rust is really nice as well and even has working a/c... so putting a little money at it isn't a bad thing at all.

The N/A 2.6 does for sure, did the mitsubishi turbo apps all come with solid lifters though, or was it only some of them, or was it an upgrade done so often it's kind of "standard"???

Re: The oft-ignored 2.6L g54b, separate but equal?

I've never seen one, turbo or otherwise, that had solids. But, I don't frequent the starquest forums like I used to. I know this '88 TSi I have here at the house that I built the engine for had hyd's factory. And I couldn't find any solid lifters for one when I was searching for them a few months ago (see my 3.0 valvetrain upgrade thread on BM). Only thing I found is maybe some very early truck and car engines had solids.

I have a 2.0 g52 in an 80 truck. If i ever get the valve cover off it for some reason, i will check for the solid ones.

BTW, there's some extenuating circumstances of doing a turbo 2.6 FWD right there.. If it doesnt work or i decide not to do it, whatever turbo parts i have will bolt right onto that truck.

ohhhhh, i didnt realize that the injectors are semi standard looking things. i thought they were goofy TBI side feed style ones. shoot, just leave the TBI, get some big old squirters and go megasquirt/EDIS. that would be stellar!

i wanna find and old 2.6l van now heehehe.

Sure about that, I seem to recall adjusting them.

Turbocharged, they would should also get killer mpg, I had a 2.6 Woody van I bought for $100 of an old man, it would go for weeks on a tank of fuel, it was gutless but passing gas stations was also fun,

I know on my van adjusting the valve clearance is part of the maintenance procedure.

only the 83s had mechanical. The later cars did not. They are a common swap though...so, any 83 that is parted...thats one of the first things people scoop up.

I don't think that's true, I know I adjusted them on my 85 van and a customers 85 van too as one adjuster wore down, had to source up parts, that was tough.

Last car I had with mechanical lifters, they needed adjusting every 6 months. Well, my butt dyno knew the difference... actually there was an objective test, if it wouldn't do 70mph in 3rd? or was it 2nd? gear they needed doing, usually on a fresh adjustment it would top out at about 74.
