    88 V6 van to 90 Turbo swap.

How difficult will this be.I found a really clean 88 van,one owner and I am contemplating picking it up and swapping the good drivetrain out of my Rusty 5spd Turbo Van.I know the return setup is already there,K frame bracket will need to be added. My biggest question is the wiring. Will it be plug and play or will i have to splice and dice?I really dont want to junk the 90 Turbo van but It needs alot of rust repair.

If your 90 is SMEC then piece of cake. If it's SBEC then you'll need an 89 van harness and PCM.

Dont even need the fuel pump as the V6 is the same as the turbo. I believe the harness will swap over without any problems. I have modified 90 harnesses for 2 of my engine swaps and other than a few plugs they are the same as the 89. To my knowledge the 90 and 89 bulkhead connectors have the same wiring order. The computers are different but the bulkheads should be the same from mid 87 to atleast 90. Just drop in the engine / trans and swap over the engine harness and computer and sensors.

Since your turbo is a stick, pick up a bobble strut bracket from Johnny at pollybushings and weld it on to your K frame.

My bad, your right, I thought only 90 and newer used the same pump, V6 to turbo.

Re: 88 V6 van to 90 Turbo swap.

I have an '88 that came originally with a V-6. I've had both '89 and '90 harnesses in my van they're both plug and play. I currently have the '89 in there now.

Instead of swapping the K member, you can get the bobble strut bracket from Johnny at Polybushings and weld it in.

I have no plans on swapping the k member.its bad enough sometimes to get bolts out of newer cars.I dont even want to try on something 20+ years old.

Thanks for all the help guys but it doesnt look like itll play out ill be able to get this 88.Which sucks it looks to be in really good shape.Oh well Ill just keep fixing the 90.
