Re: White 87 Shelby Z TII

I'm still having a no start issue revolving around the fact that the coil isn't seeing any voltage. Myself and another Chi-town SDAC member have been tinkering with this and are coming up empty. Everything I can think of has been swapped out with known good parts...

One thing I just thought of and wanted to ask, has anyone ever had an ignition switch go bad to where the vehicle will crank but not have any spark?

Re: White 87 Shelby Z TII

Haven't updated this thread in a while...

Back in September Karl hauled the Z up to the Shelby Dodge meeting that Jackson held at his shop. A bunch of guys jumped right on diagnosing the no start issue, and figured out it was some bad wiring going to the PM. Thanks again to all the guys that scrounged under the hood and figured out which wires needed to be repaired!

Lately I've farmed out some of the work to fellow Shelby Dodge fanatics Ron and Jakub, since they have some free time and I've been mandated overtime at work. Ron installed a different A555 trans that was rebuilt and sold through FWD-P. At the same time he threw on a front polyurethane bushing and a solid rear bobble strut. It really goes down the road nice and the trans shifts beautifully with the MTL trans fluid.

Jakub has been honing his leather working skills! Look at the great job he did with this wheel

The fuel tank had been leaking due to a bad filler tube grommitt, so a couple weeks ago I bought a really nice used example from Rich Tidesdale in Michigan (BTW he's a great guy to do business with). Here's a pic...look at how swollen the old cracked one is!

Recently a drivability problem was narrowed down to a weak fuel pump. After the snowfall yesterday we may have to wait until next Spring to tackle this issue...

It was very swollen and split/cracked in many places...hard to believe they have the same part number!

What are they putting in the gas out there ? That swollen one looks like the 4002010 grommet from the rwd cars.

Right!? I was thinking the same thing, but the grommit was leaking fuel when I bought it last year from the KC area.

I'm not sure if IL is like MI, but here we have a "Summer Blend" and a "Winter Blend". It doesn't do anything but raise the price at the pump.

A few pics of the latest radio to be installed (I'm pretty sure I've settled on this one). An AM/FM/CB that was an option in late 70's early 80's Mopars. It will bolt right in our cars physically, but an adapter must be fabricated for the wiring, unless you want to cut and solder wires together.

It actually puts out some decent sound, and you can really fine tune in those distant stations with the dial. Now I just need to find a place to send this to be modified with an input for an iPod

Love the CB Paul. I miss that car in some ways. Glad it went to a fantastic home. Love the little touches. It really adds up in the end.
Hows the car running? I know it has a 255 walboro from the previous owner.
The shelby is doing fine. The 2.2 got overhauled over the summer with forged pistons and and a ported head with an s60. Ran great with an upgraded clutch and a568 trans. Over the winter it was smoking and had low compression on cylinder 3 so about a month ago I dropped a 2.4l SRT motor in it with megasquirt. Soon as I wrap up a little wiring and some tuning on the megasquirt its going down to Missouri for some rust repair, little bit of body work and fresh paint. So it also went to a good home and will be running better then ever come summer time!
Please keep the updates rolling man!

did those cb radios have a different aerial for the combined signal, or did they just have a separate one?

Thanks Quintin, it really is a neat unit. There is a button that can be activated, to where the radio plays normally, but cuts out when there is a transmission on the CB!

Car is running better and better, as my friends and I have been tinkering with it quite a bit lately. Just yesterday, TurboRon and I replaced the tank with a new aftermarket unit from Rock Auto. There had been a problem with fuel pressure dropping...from the outside, the original tank looked like it was in great shape. But it was really rusty inside, and there was a bunch of debris floating around too. A few weeks ago I tried merely replacing the sock...just a few minutes of use and it was really nasty again! Pressure is now back to normal, it will be at SDAC

Sounds great man, I'm happy you're taking good care of it

That's a good question, I would have never thought to ask that. But when I purchased the radio, a splitter was included. Not sure if it is what was used originally, but both signals are picked up through the stock antennae. Here's a pic
