    Power windows in an L-body?

I just was given a 90 Daytona, or what's left of it. I wondered if I can swap the power window parts into my 82 Rampage? Has anyone tried to put power windows in a 2 door L-body?

So, nobody has tried this? I guess I'll just have to try it myself.

Haven't tried it, but I'll be watching your progress...

When I converted the Rampage to the TIII/RT harness to run the gauges and switches. I paired the wiring harness down to a bare minumum, there was like 12-14lbs of extra wires not needed in the L body. One thing I did leave though, was the wires for the power windows just in case some point in the future I feel like putting in 100 or so hours of fabrication to add the power windows
Make sure you take lots of pics, it will make it easier for me

I bought the Spal power window kit off ebay to install into my Shelby. I got this info a year ago off the TD site and haven't installed it yet.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/SPAL-POWER-WINDO...QQcmdZViewItem

It's a very nice looking kit and doesn't seem to hard to install.

Well, I have a parts car 86 Charger, so I'm gonna take everything out of both and set in on a bench and see what I can do. $129 sounds like an OK price if this doesn't work out.

I think the Spal kit works with the stock window crank mechanism and just adds an electric motor drive to it. So it should work fairly easily if all bolts up well.

Neons have power window mechanisms that work like this. There are plenty of these in the junk yard.

Re: Power windows in an L-body?

When I thought about the spal kit I was concerned about fitting it under the door panel... Our crank gear is actually outside of the door panel so it will be tough (impossible) to get it all to work under the panel and drive the stock window crank gear.

I have some Spirit power window setups that I planned on cutting up to mount in the stock lbody locations to replace the lbody regulators but I haven't gotten to it yet and who knows when I will....

I would love to see pictures of a working setup in an lbody!

they include covers in the kit. Plus, the switches, at least in other kits Ive seen, are made to go over the crank handle to hide it.

Here is an install of the kit in a Civic:

Here are the Spal instructions. They mention you may need to move the drive mechanism back into the door.

Ok I didn't realize that they telescoped the gears back inward over the stock gear... Perhaps it would end up being tight enough...

I know lets have someone do it and let me know how it works.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Somewhere I have a couple of crank hole covers from a PW Shadow w/a Pentastar on them.

    Lebarons have nice ones...

I am not sure that they will cover the holds though since they are "concave" where the cover would have to be "convex."

Today I pulled the mechamisms out of my parts car 86 SC and the Daytona (turns out to be an 89). It looks to me that it will work. I think if I cut off the little channel that the crank part with the wheel goes into and drill a hole for the swivel on the power windows it will work. Here's a couple of pics of the 2 units.

On a related note, what are folks doing to fix the tilting window syndrom that seems to affect all Omni and (seemingly) other TD cars? I know it's a worn plastic guide, but since they aren't available from the dealer, I'm interested to know what others have done to address this issue. Basically I'm really tired of having to level the window before I can crank it up! I figure I'd better get that dialed in before I try for the power option.

I just bent the bracket that the piece of plastic rides in. That helped out a lot. although the window crank being broken does not. I fix one thing on this car and another one breaks. Oh, well pretty soon the car will be new again.

The vertical bar inside the door needs to be lubricated for smooth operation of the window.

That's a good tip, but in my situation, I have to rock the window about an inch and a half to the back before I can start rolling it up, it's a two handed operation! No fun to drive and try it.
