My first try at making an oil catch can

Here are some pics of the catch can I made for my CSXT.

I've just about run out of room in the engine bay, so this is where it's going for now. I just need a piece of 1/2 OD aluminum tubing to weld into my turbo inlet pipe. Anyone have apiece laying around.?

It looks good so far. The catch can is suppose to be between the PCV and the valve cover so you don't suck into the intake oily combustion gases. If your only worried about the oil that ends up in your airbox then just route it back to the airbox instead to the turbo inlet.

It doesn't have to be located there. The factory setup has a "catch can" in the airbox.

I don't run an air box. My problem is my old set up (2 breathers) have gotten saturated with oil over the years. So now under high boost when the crank case pressure builds up, the oil just drips out of them. So it was exhaust scavange or use the turbo intake to supply the vac. I'm sure this setup will do what I want.

Yup 316 stainless. That and there is a baffle in the box on the inlet side. I hope when the vapor hits the baffle the oil will collect on it and drip off.

Wow, you have a wee bit of blowby, don't you?

Nice job on the can, should do the trick. How are you going to drain it?

There is a drain on the bottom of the can. As for the blow by it's not bad at all. The oil that dripped from the breather from sitting looks like more than it is. Bad blowby is when you start blowing the dip stick out of the tube.

    Catch can looks good

I wouldn't kid yourself about what constitues blowby. My 130,000 worn slap out T1 in my CSX-T doesn't puke that much oil at 24-25lbs. boost.

LOL ya when you do that, just relocate the catch can line to the top of the dipstick

i got 2 hose clamps and a piece of 1/4" fuel line holding my dipstick down

all blowby escapes out the main seal now

Don't kid yourself. I'm no rookie when it comes to these cars. I've been in this game for a while. I know blow by, and this motor has plenty of life in it.

could one use the oil separator setup out of, say, a Conquest?

Its the same basic principle, but, it returns it to the pan.
