    front end alignment ?????

I drove the daytona on the highway today and needless to say it was scary.

The car wanted to wander with the grooves in the road. i jacked it up and it seems like everything is tight.

I got the steering wheel straight and took pics of the left and right front wheels looking down the edge of the fender and it looks like both tires are pointing outwards in opposite directions. what do u guys think ????

yeah thats what i was thinking. I guess thats why the car is wandering. You know the shops nowadays, they wont just set the toe, they wanna do the entire alignment. I guess its not a bad thing.

I used to do alignments and its sad how service advisors sell front end alignments knowing that some cars can only have part of the alignment done due to the way the car was built.

I make sure there is a before and after printout and that they use a high quality machine. You can see if there's a good amount of negative camber just looking at it for the most part. So you'll at least know if they set it positive or not. I also like to go in the summer so i can stand outside the bay doors as they do it.

awesome. prepare for an argument though. They'll throw out crap like "You'll wear the tires out in a month!" or "this isn't a race car shop buddy" I've had all kinds of excuses. I just calmly say. Look, I've been running these specs for the last 12 years of driving and I haven't chewed a set of tires yet. DO IT or I'll go somewhere else. The only education most of them have had is what the company has paid for so their just regurgatating (spelling?) what some coporate puke has told them so that the car understeers and they won't get sued for having a car that might slide the rear as much as the front at the limit.

    Re: front end alignment ?????

Toe is pretty easy to set. I did mine with a $20 alignment tool from harbor freight. Just make sure to center your steering wheel first or it will feel all off center when driving straight!

I also set the camber max neg when I was using the stock spring hats (might be too much for prolonged driving).

Of course you would still need to get an alignment in pretty short order but you can at least get things close before driving to the alignment shop if it is across town like my friends shop is.

Toe like that can eat tires pretty quickly and isn't safe.
