Greetings all,
I got my 85 600ES Turbo home from the mechanic today with the following diagnosis.
Symptom: Car won't charge.
Diagnosis: Alt. tests out just fine on a bench, but after about 30-120 SECONDS the alternator kicks in it just shuts back off. My mechanic was told by another mechanic who is more of an alternator guru that these K-cars have a computer module that's in the front drivers fender (behind the battery area) that controls things like the regulator 'duties' for the charging system and this needs to be replaced.
Well, my first question is, is this true? (To all you folks out there who tear these apart regularly).
I had to replace a 'brain box' in my 86 Lebaron Turbo convertible many years ago and it was in the drivers kick panel. Are there 2 separate computer modules or ???
Next question. Can these be fixed? If so, who and where, if not, does anyone have one for the above year/engine or where can I go looking?
<<FYI, I know it's an early production 85 'cause it's got 4 bolt wheels>>
Thanks to anyone who has any input/thoughts, or even quips!
Ray
