Yellowing Spirit R/T door molding.. whats the fix?

just got this nice shiney spirit r/t and its bright white with yellowing door moldings... Is there a fix for this? should I just paint them? white vinyl over them? Can you still buy spirit es moldings from the dealer? (es moldings with r/t decals maybe?)

    Thanks
    Bryan

I had the exact same problem on my spirit. It was actually the clear coat from the factory turning yellow, not the actual moulding color changing..
I used acetone to remove all of the clear coat as well as all of the lettering as the factory letters were painted stencils.
It came out looking like new and after putting on new decals from FWD, I shot a coat of clear over to keep the decals on better.

I'm gonna try that. It almost looks like the lettering is *molded* into the molding.. We'll see how it works, then I can turn my attention to the yellow headlight and turn sigs.

For the headlights.... all you need is a buffing wheel and some very fine polish to look new again.

The moldings.... I am not sure if buffing them might work, as well. I'd try it on a spare set if you had some.

unfortunately I cannot see the pictures on this PC (blocked), but an old trick on white cars is to wash them with a sponge and Bonami ( sp?) cleanser. Its the one "has not scratched yet". I would give it a try on the molding in a spot. Then buff it with some mild compound, or even with a little more work a cleaner wax will do. I honestly doubt it will work but if you have the stuff laying around its worth a try. My guess it is the rubber / urethane in the molding that you are seeing.

Best bet is white vinyl with the DOHC intercooled multi-valve printed on it. Those moldings are hard to get paint to stick to after a while and the vinyl will stay "flexible" like the molding forever.....

Re: Yellowing Spirit R/T door molding.. whats the fix?

I'm gonna try cleaning them first as stated above, as that the easiest route, then I'll try the ones that Jason is sending me (my BFF ) .
I don't wanna paint them like Jackson said it prob won't adhere, so we'll try the acetone next, if that doesn't work it vinyl..
