    ES control arm bushings

Just got my bushings in the mail. Reading through the instructions they say to use heat to remove the old bushings. I don't really have access to a torch. Anyone have success just pounding/prying out the old stock bushings?

You have a drill? You can work the drill bit into the rubber a SHORT distance, over and over until you destroy the all rubber.

You'll never get the old ones out by pounding/prying. Get a cheapy propane torch and burn 'em out. It's about the only way...really.

Have you tried destroying them with an air chisel? It's possible but not fun. cheap torch is a good investment.

Yeah it's a pain the rear and it takes some time. I had to use a torch and EVENTUALLY work mine out. The funny thing is, the new ones went in without a hitch.

Would a Ball joint press work?

Sometimes they are $29 or less:

    OR

I use mine once in a while for small press jobs and it worked to get the bushings out of my wife's G20 control arms.

Usually those can be rented for deposit only (free as long as you return it) from auto parts places... good idea!

I too have burned bushings out with a propane or map gas torch. I also have a press which I can take them out with too. Either way works.
