2.6 is just as good as a 2.5. Everything is totally different between the two, mounts don't bolt up, trans won't match, wiring is totally different. Better off to stay w/ the 2.6 and spend the money on a multiport intake and aftermarket EFI.

    Re: motor swaping a conquest

why because of putting the vastly superior ls engine in place of a boat anchor 2.6.

For the price of putting mpfi on a 2.6 he could buy a donor ss/ta 4th gen for the swap

Think you can buy an LS1 drivetrain and drop it in cleanly and get it running for less than that?

    $2200 for the intake side.

If you look, buying an ls drive train can definitely be had for that.

    Re: motor swaping a conquest

No no no, swap a DSM wideblock 4G63 or 4G64 into it.

The problem is that you have to find a Dodge D50 or Mitsu pickup with an automatic and A G63 or G64 and then swap all of the Talon/Eclipse 4g63 engine internals into that block. After you do that then you have something that bolts right up to the Conquest transmission. The D50 engine mounts even work...

    This should get you started:

    http://www.carotica.com/4g64/

And no the 2.6 isn't just as good as the 2.5 unless you do a lot of work on the head(remove jet valves), electronics(ditch the throttlebody injection, etc).

    Re: motor swaping a conquest

You don't have to remove the jet valves, you can just remove the adjusters for them so they never open. I agree that the TBI system on them is junk, hence my suggestion of MPI conversion. W/ the addition of forged pistons, the 2.6 is easily capable of withstanding 500hp.

The 4G63 swap is nice also, I've of them swapping in 4G63's w/ a Supra 6-spd behind it, that would make a killer ride w/ 30+ psi of boost

I just get tired of the "rip it out and drop a SBC/SBF/LSx/whatever in it" advice. It's not just here, it's everywhere. People on other forums say the same thing about our 2.2/2.5, it's like V8 guys that always want to pull that "turd" 318 or S6 and drop in a 360 or a big block. No imagination. As a old British tuner my dad used to work for would say, "Any fool can make a V8 goes fast"

Yes, a LS1 is a good engine, make good power reliably in stock form, doesn't weigh much, etc. But, you buy one w/ a trans, then you need custom motor mounts to mount it, new or modified trans crossmember, custom driveshaft, new radiator and hoses, custom fuel lines and rad mounts, new electric fan(s), etc etc. Little stuff racks up quick.

i think that a dodge dakota motor and tranny will bolt up not a regular 2.5 fwd motor and the 2.6s are junk motors no matter what you do to them. and i want mopar not chevy junk so no ls1

That reminds me, there used to be a guy on here that had a turbocharged 4 cylinder TJ. Wonder what ever happened to him.

    Re: motor swaping a conquest

Me and a friend of mine just bought an LT1 out of a 96 Caddy for $200. It was everything: computer, accessories, brackets, and wiring too(except the trans itself). We're going to run a 200r4 built up because of the better gear ratios. You can get an LT1 for quite a bit cheaper than an LS1 and if someone REALLY has to have an LS1, they can convert it as there is nothing different between the two except: heads, intake, and cam. It's really not that big of a deal.

HOWEVER... I DO think that it would be overkill in that car. While it could be cool to fabricate, the frame-stiffening, custom parts, and poor weight distribution would relegate it to an expensive straight line car. Just my $.02.

Anything other than a 2.6 will require some fabrication and/or wiring.
