I've heard you can get it at a sporting goods store. Used to tape bats.
I usually use hockey tape. Most good sporting goods stores will have it. Buy the good stuff or it will un-wrap itself over time.
You can also get friction tape at home depot/lowes and even autozone sometimes. It is a little bit different from hockey tape. (bat tape is generally white.)
Eastwood also has lots of unique car tapes and wraps. I really like the non adhesive vinyl wrap because it doesn't get sticky with heat and it also stretches and seals tight so it doesn't ever get oil soaked.
For high heat areas I use the self vulcanizing tape which is a really heavy thick tape.

Hockey tape loses it's color and turns grey in just a few years. The self vulcanizing tape tends to crack/split open after a couple years. The Depot friction tape is 'too sticky' and gooey on the back side so IMO, there is no perfect 'OEM style' tape that I've found. I hope something turns up that is just right.

gaffer's tape...you have to order it and it isn't very cheap, but it works.
I used the bat/hockey/friction tape and it only lasted about one year and turned gray and into a gooey mess! I redid mine with the cloth tape from HD. It is also pretty gooey but seems to last longer than the sports stuff. It has only been on there for one year so cant say how long it will last, but it does give the factory look. Here is a pic of the HD tape.

Non adhesive vinyl tape
Thats the correct stuff for bundling the wires inside the loom and some of the breakouts. I've ordered twice from that place with nothing but excellent service.
My personal opinion of hockey/friction tape.. dont bother unless your building a show car thats not going to see much use. I've used all of it in every flavor and eventually it all dries out, gets brittle and while its still tacky it collects dirt like a magnet. As I've gone through the junkyards and taken samples, notes and pictures of untouched factory wiring and have NOS battery cable harnesses in my inventory of stuff. I have seen everything ranging from white masking tape to black narrow ductape like wrapping.
That roll of tape below is the closest thing to factory style tape I have ever found. Its like light duty ductape.
I did the harness in my 84 Voyager when I converted it to a turbo almost 9 years ago. I used 3M friction tape found at HD. It still looks new.
I do agree it does collect dirt though.
I did the harness in my 89 turbo mini which is a DD and it gets a little dirty but seems to clean right up when I wash the engine compartment.

id like to know if anyone has something that will hold longer then hockey tape too
if the black doesn't last they have pink orange and American flag style too
as I previously stated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffer_tape
This tape can be bought at Wal-Mart, I believe, called Gorilla tape. It's very sticky but not flexible like friction tape and has a none sticky backing.
Dealers may carry it, 4778138. Cloth with a slight coating on it. Called Polyken, made by Berry Platics Corporation. Used in TSB 08-07-94 for minivan trans wiring issues.
My boss told me about this type of tape thats made by 3M. People use them for sand buggy. Its just like electrical tape But its stretchy and makes a good seal.
