I found a factory black, 5-speed 4-door turbo Shadow for sale locally for $800. Seller says its currently inspected till the end of the month and all it needs is tires. Is this a good buy and how many of these were produced if anyone knows?

Depends on condition. If its clean and solid and runs well thats a good deal. But its an 87 Dodge Shadow they made thousands of them so if your looking for something rare then keep looking. They made thousands of Daytonas and Shadows and Lebarons and Lancers turbo'd.
Ok thanks ShelbyLancer and I just got off the phone with him and sounds there are more probs with it then advertised. Neat little car though.
its rare these days.

They did make many of them, but they are getting harder to find in good condition. '87 is an early T1 "log" engine, but it can easily be converted to T-II specs. Is the floor rust free? If so, well worth that im my book, but I'm slightly biased towards '87 p-bodies
If it was a 2 door sunroof car, I'd be on it like a fat kid on cake
I dont think anyone has made an '87 "4-door" CSX

They may have made thousands and thousands of turbo Shadows, but I'm gonna wager that most turbo Shadows were auto trans. I'll also guess that very few turbo Shadows were manual trans and 4 doors.
If it's in decent shape, cheap, and you like it, you should grab it. You don't see many clean ones with those options.

+1 on the 5-speed 4-door being an un-common combo.

True, But its still nothing to wet yourself over either. A 4 door 5 speed p body may be less common but its still just a 4 door turbo dodge shadow. Now My Lancer is something rare 1 of 800 ever made one of 395 leather auto cars, probably half that now remain even less in as good as shape as mine lol.. But either way its still a cool car for sure but again its only worth anything if its solid and not beat to hell... But yes converting it from the gawdawful log intake is the best thing you can do to it without really considering the performance gain it gives you, if nothing other than to have it run and drive better and be more reliable.
oh and p.s.
I have seen quite a few 4 door turbo 5 speed p bodies out here in salt lake county, One even ended up in the local pick n pull a while back a blue one If I recall right.
Wow thats almost 1/4 as rare as my executive sedan. My executive sedan is still a piece of ---- and not worth $800.. it's all about condition.True, But its still nothing to wet yourself over either. A 4 door 5 speed p body may be less common but its still just a 4 door turbo dodge shadow. Now My Lancer is something rare 1 of 800 ever made one of 395 leather auto cars
I think its a rare car, because for one thing 87-88 p-bodies had a different front end and taillights than the later ones and you pretty much only see the later ones nowadys. IMO 87 shadows had the best headlights and taillights of ALL year of shadows. Also the 4 door manual turbo thing is pretty uncommon.
So maybe not rare by the numbers but if i saw one it would get my attention.
I recently bought an 89 shadow for parts.. it was advertised as an 87, and i was going to fix it up, but when i found out it was an 89 i decided to take it apart and crush the body.. if that tells you anything about 87 vs 89.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
I wonder if this is the same car

Difference between 87 shadow and sundance:
87 shadow: BEST p-body taillights
87 sundance: WORST p-body taillights

Yeh im not a big fan of the later p-bodies, all because of the front end. I still dont love the proportions of the car overall either, but 87-88 would be cool enough that id run it.Tells me you dont like them.
anyway im gonna get huge amounts of use out of the parts on this car, so even if i crush it i'll have gotten more use out of it than anyone else would and those parts will live on in other k-cars.
Also i already offered to give it away for free to one guy and $100 to another and its just impractical for anyone who wants it to come get it and put it back together after i take all my parts off.
feel free to ask if you need any body parts i might have.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
87,88 black 4 door P-bodys are the shiznit
4 doors are hard to come by, try finding 4-door es ground effects for 87-89
I've yet to find any in a yard.
