    Re: 1984 Rampage Rebuild - Project R'age

Oh and looking for something that is fairly bolt in and new from the store. As you know I can weld and fabricate if need be. I just want a higher amp alternator for the system.

    Thanks!

    Re: 1984 Rampage Rebuild - Project R'age

I upgraded a couple of my L bodies to the later Denso style alt. The harness end is different, need to do some fabbing there and the tension adjustment/mounting hardware is different as well. I just made a trip to the J yard, got all the mounting hardware and harness end, then got a rebuilt unit and traded in my old alt as core. Works great for the last 10 years. Considering my Charger GLHS had been thru 3 stock style alts in 35K miles still working after 10 years is saying something

    Re: 1984 Rampage Rebuild - Project R'age

Any late model Omni that has a Denso is a suitable donor for the mounting bits, say 89 or 90... However, I think the 120amp units were only in Minis with rear air etc.I think 90 amp was the highest rated L body set up. Mix and match, its easy

Sweet, if you run across the mounting bits at a local jy, let me know how much as there are NONE around here. Can it be mounted with a turnbuckle/heims instead?

$6900, found a motorcycle that I want to chop, so something has to go! Needs an alternator and tires soon. I hope to get the alternator here shortly, so tires would be about it.

    Re: 1984 Rampage Rebuild - Project R'age

    Update:

I have about 1000 pictures of the restore on facebook; not sure if you use it, but it is the best way to view all of the pictures.

I have every receipt in a binder with an excel spreadsheet of everything that was done.

It had a very nice stereo system, but I was tired of not using it, so I moved it over to my CTSV.

I am in the middle of installing a new alternator.

It has a new WP, front brake lines all new brakes(88 Daytona Z), plugs, wires, cap, rotor, rebuilt carb, exhaust and new battery.

I Herculined the bed after stripping the whole car, priming the bed and I rolled it on.

New windshield and custom cut rear glass. I am not happy with the rear glass, but oh well.

It needs tires, the emergency brake does not work, the doors do not lock and the passenger's will not open from the outside. I have tried to fix all of this, but have really lost interest in the vehicle.

The wheels are SRT4s that I media blasted and shot with single stage GM Artic White to match the car.

IT has an electric fuel pump from an early 80s escort.

Ebay coilovers and new struts up front; actually rides really well.

The rear has an axle flip, with a zero rate 1" lowering block. I am going to probably take the lowering block off OR I can leave it and you can get matching 205.40.17s all the way around the The rears are 21540.17s and rub the inside of the fenderwells.

All of the lights have been lightly tinted and cleared.

The headliners did come out of a Rampage, but I covered it in additional webbing so it would last another 20 years and then covered it in the skull and cross bones fabric.

I traded out the rearview mirror with one out of an S10 that was auto dimming and had two map lights. Works GREAT!

There is NO AC/HEAT in the car at all.

I removed the unit, but I still have it along with a few boxes of parts that will go with the Rampage.

I have the bed rails as well as another set of spare wheels.(donuts)

The floorboards and the roof areas have been replaced with good sheet-metal from donor cars, primed, welded, reprimed and covered in quality fiberglass based body filler. It was smoothed with a non-porous body filler.

New carpet, 2001 power-reclining VW seats, on Rampage manual rails.

1984 Dodge charge full console. I don't like it and would go back with something else as it does not fit well.

All interior plastics were cleaned, degreased and reconditioned in either black or white plastic dye.

White face gauges from the guy on here. New speedometer cable. New air cleaner and underhood hoses.

I think that about covers it.

I do need to get the title put in my name and get it inspected, but that is about it.[/QUOTE]

Any trades + cash out there? Does not have to be a full vehicle. High end tools, running motorcycles, gold coins, BBC parts, race car rollers, etc.....

Needing some driveway and garage space for next few builds.

    Thanks!

I liked this thread better when you were fired up about the Rampage. You attacked that thing with a real passion But now you are discovering what many here have already experienced, you have too much into a TM project and it is hard to recoup your investement thru selling it. believe me, I know this pattern all to well When I got my TIII powered Rampage over 10 years ago, (First running TIII in an L body anywhere BTW) it came with $20K in reciepts, that guy was waaaayyy upside down as I only paid $1500. for the semi-running project. Now that I have just about COMPLETELY redone the truck(still ugly, needs paint/body before I even wanna drive it much) I easily have $10K of my own money into it. Does anyone think I can get $30K for my Rampage?? Heck, even $10K?? Didn't think so So I'll just keep it and get my $$ out of it by driving it occasioanlly...

So what happened to your passion for the Rampage, life? Family? Circumstance? Lot's of us have pushed that 'Ole project into a dark corner of the garage and waited years before the passion faound us again. That way you are not really 'out' the money you've put into it
