One person saying this parts ratio doesn't matter, another saying the rear has to match/be close to the fronts ratio. The only responses I feel we can trust would be from those who have completed the builds, like Carlos. No offense intended.
except that just about all of us that have desired to do this swap (i have a complete driveline from a 2001 awd caravan in my garage right now) have talked to carlos before he passed and have taken a look at or physically have the parts on hand. and we've all talked with each other for years about how this system works. you dont need to forage out on your own because all the info has been figured out already.

the ptu is driven at the same rate as the front axles because its driven off of the front differential carrier which is turned by the ring gear. the front diff ratio isnt important at all.

the relationship between the front PTU and the rear diff is the ratio you need to be concerned with. mixing and matching parts from different models will make it more important to know the gear ratios between the PTU and front diff.

ok, just looked it up via google---> "site:turbo-mopar.com 3.42 3.45 awd" as the search string so i could search 3 character combinations that this site doesnt like to search.

straight from the horses mouth like i said.

read this thread. i only posted a single post cause the thread is huge.... this is where alot of discussed and figured out how the system worked.

stick with caravan stuff and you wont have a problem.

carlos used a 91 ptu and a later van rear with the torque arm like i have.

Pulled a late model van rear end last year on half off day. Sorta looks the same as the pacifica, until you look at the axles. Bolt on vs slide in (pacifica). I was gonna get one from a Pacifica too until I saw that.
This was the first late model AWD I have ever seen in the yard, and I have seen 100 AWD vans for sure.

Just about placed an order for the rear diff from a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. Supposedly its grade A, but it's coming from Rhode Island so I'm expecting rust, but hey they only want $290 total, which is hundreds cheaper than other grade A units ranging from $350-$700+. So unless someone can give me a better offer, I'm going through with the purchase.

There are roughly four adapter plates that I need. Part 2, 8, maybe 10 if it is separate from 8 ( https://gyazo.com/d9708f5513662f17d8fd815d364d6a39 ) and the retainer plate pictured here ( https://gyazo.com/9ef2c5ff339040fdae75ee62c1d642ef )
I would prefer to buy these plates from one of you as it would be cheaper and easier to get a hold of than buying them brand new or trying to hunt them down. I don't need to keep them, so if someone wants to donate them so that I can get new units fabricated, that would also be pretty awesome!

parts 2, 8, and 10 would need to be fabricated anyway if you are using a 5speed and bolting the PTU to a 4 cylinder as they are not the 3.3 or the 3.8 or the 41TE that the PTU originally bolted to.

the bearing retainer/adapter you will need to get from a yard or one of us though.

Do you or anyone else here have a spare one I can buy? I can buy it brand new, but it wouldn't be cheap.

Also the 2001+ rear diff I was looking at fell through. I didn't want to go through with the purchase since the yard wasn't willing to send me any pictures, and hadn't even opened it up let alone removed it from the vehicle before determining the grade of the part.

Ok, what about an asking price so I can gauge that versus what I might spend getting the part/s myself? There's a van near me that I've been trying to buy that has the front end parts that I need to get. Problem is that I don't think the guy is committed to selling it.

i have no idea what the going rate is.

Could you contact those that have dibs? I'm trying to move forward with this project asap.

cant do that to them. the dibs for the first guy is contingent on me getting him a shipping quote. im not ready for that. besides, i hem and haw weekly on whether i want to get rid of it at all.

    Thanks

The amount of labor required to get a few of those parts makes them unlikely to sell. They cost me too much in lost work. Reaper actually has one of my Tcases at his house but he DID help and does help me at the yard.

I don't think this stuff needs to be in this tread btw. Diluting it badly.

Could be in a different thread, but not really diluting this one at all.

Re: Allwheel Drive Omni GLH SRT4

Also got the rear diff out of the 95 t&c I picked up, can't get the damn thing open to count teeth, but found a tag on it that read out 3494 so I assume that could be the gear ratio. Problem was that I couldnt seem to separate the back half of the drive shaft from the diff, and couldnt pull the driver side of the diff off enough to really look inside of it. Drive side axle boot was torn so the axle popped apart and a few of the bolt heads rounded off while I was removing them because of rust.
