Found three first gen neons with dohc heads, those good?
Stock, the 2000+ head is a tad better but honestly, buy whichever one you can find. They both have alot of aftermarket support. The 99 and older head bolts right on, the 2000+ head needs a tweak on passage.

Super60 roller cams or custom/billet cams. Link to info
It is my understanding that the 2.0L DOHC cams are the hot ticket, but the heads aren't head and shoulders above any of the others... This assumes you plan on running stock cams, otherwise it's wide open.

What's better about the neon cams?
They are overall better. 2.4 cams are terrible for any kind of high rpm's. If I'm not mistaken, the early heads had either bigger intake or exhaust valves.
How high could you rev them to?
if you don't mind me asking....what are you bolting these heads to? A 2.2???
2.2
anyone know the cam specs for the 2.0 16v vs the 2.4 cams
thanks
Althought the 2.0 head isn't a desired one, that doesn't mean it's a bad head right? And, is there a stock intake manifold that I could use that won't be in the way of the distributor?
Thanks
Slowe's running low 9's with the "less desirable" head.

Nice. What about the manifold question
manifold answer is no...unless I am forgetting something....
don't mean to clog up the thread...but, is there a thread that explains this in more detail? I've searched, and after 10 pages...I gave up.
This has my attention.
It's a sticky in the 2.4/2.0 section

shelbyplaya says he uses a stock stratus manifold, and it clears the distributor
Yes,stock Stratus clears the distributor.
The distributor is removable with the intake bolted in place too...just have to remove it piece by piece lol!
Depending what plug leads you use,you may have to grind the flange a bit to get some clearance, and you will definately need to relocate the oil filter with a kit.
I'd recommend one with hose inlet/outlet at 90* to it's mount,so the hoses point down towards the pan rather than straight out (hits the plenumb with straight fittings, and is VERY tight with 90* fittings screwed in to the adapter instead).
Mine was a super cheap junkyard style build, and has run near daily since late Sept. '05.
pics?
move oil filter? ugh, i'll just make a manifold
