Re: Rear discs for an l-body

I had upgraded the rear brakes on my Omni GLH to the 10" solid disc setup from my Shelby Lancer, and then later upgraded again to the 11" vented rears from a '91 Lebaron GTC. In both cases, it was practically a bolt on. You have to tweak the rear hard brake line a little and drill a hole in the rear axle for the brake line support bracket, but all in all a fairly easy swap if you have all the donor parts.

I would not suggest upgrading to the 11" vented setup unless you are also upgrading the front brakes to at least the 11" setup from the later cars. My car has too much rear brake bias, even with SLH III front brakes (Caravan 60mm calipers w/10" rotor). I am working on modifying some '89 Daytona Shelby knuckles so I can upgrade my fronts to the 11" setup to get some balance back..

so will rear knuckles off of a daytona bolt up or just the lancers?

It's not really a knuckle on the rear; most people refer to it as a 'backplate'. It's the cast iron part that bolts to the rear axle and provides mounting provision for the caliper. But yeah, a Daytona or Lancer setup will work just fine, as will Shadows, Lebarons, or any other K-based car with rear disc brakes (not vans though).

I used 10.5" non-vented rear discs w/ the drum-style park brake off my '89 Lebaron (which got the 11" upgrade), I bolted everything up, no drilling. Minor bending of the hard line on each side. Even the original park brake cable worked.
