How many companies made a cast 2 1/2" S/V for our cars? Did FM ever make any?

Rob,
I know that Turbonetics and Garrett made them for Chrysler TI-TII turbos. I recently received a 2.5 swingvalve off a new turbo from FM. It seemed to me that it was thinner than what I remembered. I mentioned this to Chris @ TU. He hadn't seen any, but thought it could very well be a third style. Any markings it had were removed with a carbide rotary file. Humm...
FM made their swingvalves (these were welded like yours) for their TBI header kit with a cast 90 elbow. FM also made a one piece cast elbow with their logo on it for their TIII turbo upgrades. This was used in conjunction with the Turbonetics universal swingvalve.
That's all that I know about in the 2.5 variety.

Interesting. I have a new 2 1/2" S/V with no markings on it what so ever. It does look like a thinner casting. It also has a threaded hole on the tight (drivers side) downpipe bolt hole. I've never seen anything like it. I was told it came from FM on one of their turbos.

That second o2 bung was on the 84-87 log manifold turbos and (86 GLHS) for a EGR valve. Fitting screwed into the o2 bung and the EGR tube was connected to that, then to the 90 degree turbo inlet where the EGR mounted.
A lot of the later swingvalves had the boss for this, but not the tapped hole.

Picture of the said swingvalve?
the turbonetics SV that came on the "MP Plus" turbo I bought from Todd years ago has that threaded hole
My Turbonetics 2.5" s.v. has both holes threaded.
later Dick Westerhof
My TU 3" SV has both holes threaded too But it didn't come that way.
Pics of said anomaly.

Pretty sure that is a later style Turbonetics piece... they started putting the O2 bung back like that so the probe doesnt block as much exhaust flow.

Wow that MP turbo I sold you was many, many, moons ago Jay! I'm really not a firm believer in that threaded swingvalve, unless it would have a heli-coil stainless insert. The problem is after many years the rusting/heat issue could wreck your day if you snapped off a downpipe bolt or two into the end of the swingvalve. I've actually drilled some of those swingvalves threaded holes out. Different strokes for different folks...

Pic of new Garrett 2.5 SW
I agree. They just seem thinner than they used to be. Here is a pic from Chris @ TU. Blame him for the poor quality photo. Middle SW is Turbonetics 2.5. Note location of turbonetics name. Same area of defection in your photo. I personally think it's a knockoff. That would explain why they would go to the trouble of removing the name.

Yes it was, and it's been going strong all these years! Still running every day in my 2.2 T2 new yorker. I ported the wastegate hole when I got it too. The only downside to it is that Puppet on the forums is always telling me it's not a real MP plus turbo. Other than that it's been great.
I like it, if it does strip out or the bolt siezes up in it (it hasn't with anti-sieze on it) I'll just drill it out and and put a heli-coil in it.I'm really not a firm believer in that threaded swingvalve, unless it would have a heli-coil stainless insert.
