    BOV placement

I know this has been much debated, but with my setup I am free to place my BOV wherever I like. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Agreed!

For the longest time I ran mine about 8-10" befor the TB. But with my new set up I mounted it befor the intercooler behind the passenger head light. I didnt notice any preformace differnce between the 2 mounting locations.

    Re: BOV placement

The thought process behind it being close to the turbo (before intercooler) is to blow off the hot air before it makes it to the intercooler thus reducing heat soak to your intercooler. I also have it right before the TB. With the size of my intercooler I doubt I am loosing much if anything at all due to heat soak. Maybe there would be *some* benifit to the guys running a lot of boost with a stock cooler, I just don't think we are talking about a lot of power here. I guess if you are one of those guys where anything helps, it may help you a little.

    Re: BOV placement

I have it between the intercooler and throtte body.

I don't think it really matters unless you're running stupid amounts of boost. (30+ psi).

Closer to the turbo the better, but you'll probably have to compromise on location depending on where you can shoehorn it in, and if it's an adjustable model that you may need to get at and tweak, etc.

Isnt that for spring tension? I used to use that same BOV.

And I can honestly place the bov wherever I want. the lower hose is actually a better spot to mount it becuase it is in a place to where it would be easier to get at the the upper.

    Re: BOV placement

two schools of thought here: a) Pressure starts at TB when it is shut so BOV should be as close as possible to TB to minimize distance back wave has to travel...b) BOV should be as close to turbo as possible to avoid venting cooled charge in I/C (but theoretically cooled charge will move back through tract when pressure wave builds anyways)

Conclusion: there is no real data to support either claim and in the end it probably doesn't even matter; hence, put it where it fits and makes life easiest on you.

    Re: BOV placement

I'd think that probably the only time it matters is if you intend on recirculating the valve. I do and wouldn't want the lower pipe blowing into the turbo housing. The valve I use (HKS by-pass) also stays open when not in boost so it's pulling air from the turbo inlet piping right to the TB entrance. The throttle response is much better this way ... for my set-up.

    Re: BOV placement

Since I'm doing water/air I decided to mount it on the TB side of the intercooler. My goal is to keep the plumbing as short as possible. This seemed like the best way to achieve that goal.

    Re: BOV placement

^thats pretty cool, i thought about doing that on my front mount so that the bov would be outside of the engine bay and would be louder.
