A whole lot of patience. I usually try to position it so I can pop it off with a screw driver. It helps to unbolt the can from the comp housing so you can move the arm around too.

If the swingvalve has been off recently or was installed using nickel based anti-sieze remove it with the wastegate can. This should make installation easier.

When installing the "C" clip, tie some lightweight fishing line to it before trying to install it. That way if you miss a few times it's easy to "reel" the clip back in without having to locate it with a flashlight and extended magnet.

chris i thought of using some small guage wire as a tail to grab when removing clip. but installation would still be a pain. how about something lik this pic. crude drawing but may work.

To get the arm off, you can pry under the arm and the clip will break...I used a looser one from the hardware store which made installation a breeze.

Tired of trying to get that f'n e-clip on? Have 38 cents?
Partsamerica.com (locally Advance Auto Parts, Checker Auto Parts, Schuck’s Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Part) has

Pik-A-Nut LINKAGE CLIP 5/32 ROUND PCKNT

Part Number: 362262

The clip has a skeleton key hole that slips over the rod then you just slide it over and voila! Buy a few - I dropped mine and was glad I had a spare.
No messing around with plyers in that hard to reach area.

Re: little c clips suck

ok c clip is off! and heres how i did it. take your wifes hand held vanity mirror stick it behind the intake (i have one piece intake) with other hand use a little flat head screwdriver. look in mirror and insert screwdriver in gap of c clip and pop it off. hard part is the mirror is a reverse image so it played mind games at first. you'll see.oh and dont plan on keeping that little sob cause its going to go flyin. and most important give the mirror back to your wife when your done. dont make her come ask for it.
