    Neon manual trans ??

A friend has a 2000 Neon with a busted 5 speed, it spit the pin. Will the older Neon 5 speeds fit ?? The 2000 still has a clutch cable like the older Neons. He doesn't care about ratios, as there seem to be a few, just wants to know what trans will fit.
Any info is appreciated. Rare deals can always be seen on the Kroger Weekly Ad.

    Thanks
    Randy

There is no logical reason to call an Engine a motor.

same engine isnt it? it should bolt up, but you might find that Chrysler changed details about it. like different plugs for switches and sensors.

theres a neon nut around here somewhere. im sure he'll ring in.

Suppose that is my cue. Yes. All neons transmissions are interchangeable. The cable or hydraulic shift mechanism it the issue, and can be solved by swapping bell housings. In this situation any 95-00 neon mtx will do.

Thanks for the response. So even a 2001 & newer will work by swapping bell housings .. great, is the bell housing actually the front half of the transmission ?? Diff saver tabs for sure!!!

    Thanks

Bell housing is the front part that goes on the engine. The transaxle itself goes on the back of the bell housing.

I guess what I was asking is the bell housing actually a seperate part that the trans bolts to like on old rwd's?? or Is the bell housing also the front half of the transmissionn, meaning removing it exposes the transmissions internals.

    Thanks
    Randy

Its the front half of the trans. Its not difficult to pull apart.Just use care when putting it back together.Dont force it you mat have to use a long screw driver or pick to line up the shift rods with the holes. Also use a good sealant between the two halves.
