    Question compression

    did a compression test today cuzz the car smokes, at a cold idle but when it warms up it goes away. i'm not sure if it would be valve seals or if it is something else . the car is a stock 87 glhs.

    Could be valve seals or turbo seals. If they are original, I'd bet the valve seals are hard by now.

    What were your compression numbers?

    the compression # where 120 143 145 145. that i know of every thing is orginal thanks for the quik reply

    Hmmm, that 120 kind of raises a flag. What do the spark plugs look like? What color is the smoke?

    Raises a flag, but still not too bad. Add a teaspoon of oil and test it again... Should raise it.

    I'm guessing valve seals with JT here... cold idle issue. A turbo going bad would be smokes after warm up...

    the #1 plug had what looked like chalk on it. the smoke looks like it is white or a really lite blue . i did put a little oil in the #1 to see how much it would go up but it only went up to 125 or 130 can't remember right now. i hope that can help . i'm not sure if should do the vavle seal first or go with some thing eles. thanks everyone for the help .

    did the valve seals today just to find a valve guide has fell . it really sucks but i'll just have to wait tell i get back from the deployment to fix that darn valve guide. thank guys for all the info
