    Latest starter heat shield attemp

My car eats starters. I have 2 lifetime warrenty starters from Kragen that get wasted anywhere from 2 weeks to 6-7 mos. This is the latest mouse attemp to make em last longer.

I went thru many many starters in my first CSX... they would get burn in the summer then not work when it got colder out. heat shield is a great idea.

I use a Thermo-Tec universal starter wrap kit. It works really well as long as you dont have any oil leaks

Might be a dumb question but have you replaced your battery cables? My daytona was eating starters I changed the batt cables, then I had no issues. Just a thought. Good idea either way.

Re: Latest starter heat shield attemp

Run the Nippo starter and problem solved, they have their own heat shields,

Use this wrap, can install it with the starter in the car, stopped me from killing Bosch starters-

Try and find one intact or even there. Not sure if you can buy them anymore but the wrap is so easy to use.

I bought a new one this year from the dealer. Looks OK to me, but will probably try the wrap under it.

I just returned a burned up "world class" advance starter. It had a cover over the solenoid but it burn up right under it. The new one had a cover over the whole starter

I haven't had any problems with my autozone starter. It came with a heat shield but I forgot to put it on.

Re: Latest starter heat shield attemp

I beleive it's just bad quality rebuilding anymore. I just replaced a NAPA starter that was only 6 mo. old on a friends 86 Lebaron. It's gotten to the point that the guys at Kragen don't even verify the problem. In fact, one of my bad starters BLEW UP in the tester. I laughed and said see, I told you it was bad.

How much? I thought someone mentioned you couldn't buy them anymore.

What do you expect when you buy Chinese crap from Autozone, something that actually works?

Maybe you should heed your own advice and buy something made with real materials, not cheap crap.

It was a little over $20. Might have been something sitting on a shelf, I don't know. BTW, there are 2 types of factory shields. Mine has a clip that holds it on to the starter. Not sure if the other type is available.
