I tore apart a 86 GTS with a 287, it was rebuilt at some time. I also have a 85 casting date swirl head

02Gcaravan nice, I have always liked the 287 head. I plan on going to my "local" 150mi away pick your part and combine a 85T1 with a 90+ TBI. To have a cheep strong 2.2T. PS I like the 600.

That is a nice and clean head there, most newer 287 heads I have seen are mexican heads. I have heard of 287s that had a 95 cast mark.

i like the 287's for heavier cars bottom end torque is better works great with log intakes but it is best to use slider cams and stay away from putting rollers if you are using on 2.5 rollers are good but they have a tendecy to not boost soon but rather later

What's good about the 287 head? Is it the same as the bathtub head?

You have that backwards. G-heads make LESS torque so there better for a lighter car. Swirl heads or 782's are better for heavier vehicles, IE my van.

yah but 782's and heavy vehicles dentonate... like your van. The best combinations for reliability and ease of mind is a little different mentality. The difference in torque is well worth the high boost reliability.

+1^^^^^ Simon, you have it backwards. Reliability is more important at high cylinder head pressures. I have a buddy that ran a swirl on a lighter (CSX) 2.5L car... He had the same detonation issues you have...

Guys, I only have issues at 25psi, sheesh,

I don't drive my van at 25psi, only at the track, other wise, it gets a diet of 89 octane and 15psi with NO ISSUES,
