02Gcaravan nice, I have always liked the 287 head. I plan on going to my "local" 150mi away pick your part and combine a 85T1 with a 90+ TBI. To have a cheep strong 2.2T. PS I like the 600.

My 287 head has an 88 cast mark.

That is a nice and clean head there, most newer 287 heads I have seen are mexican heads. I have heard of 287s that had a 95 cast mark.
Daniel Merrill
How do you tell if it's a Mexican head?

Pull V/C It,ll say Made in Mexico at mani side. Had bad luck with them toughtOriginally Posted by boost geek

What's good about the 287 head? Is it the same as the bathtub head?
287 and bathtub are the same thing.
later Dick Westerhof
You have that backwards. G-heads make LESS torque so there better for a lighter car. Swirl heads or 782's are better for heavier vehicles, IE my van.Originally Posted by turbo xtc

yah but 782's and heavy vehicles dentonate... like your van. The best combinations for reliability and ease of mind is a little different mentality. The difference in torque is well worth the high boost reliability.Originally Posted by turbovanman

+1^^^^^ Simon, you have it backwards. Reliability is more important at high cylinder head pressures. I have a buddy that ran a swirl on a lighter (CSX) 2.5L car... He had the same detonation issues you have...Originally Posted by Frank
