    2.5 Tall Deck Question

I'm picking up an 88 Aries this weekend, does it have a tall deck engine in it? The motor is junk, is there anything worth keeping when I pull it out? I have no desire to build a long rod motor or anything like that but if it has anything someone else can use I'll set it aside. TIA

    Re: 2.5 Tall Deck Question

If it's a 2.5, it's a tall deck. I'd take the block. Nothing else in it I'm interested in.

BTW, both of the tall blocks I've taken apart had the TS head with turbo exhaust valves. So, check it out, the head might be a keeper...

Cool, thanks. I'd trade you for your 86 2.2 block you had but shipping would be expensive.

    Re: 2.5 Tall Deck Question

A while back I had a tall deck block shipped to me (from Chicago) by UPS for $50. That was several years ago, I'm sure it's gone up.

    Re: 2.5 Tall Deck Question

Are the oil pans the same as either a cb or non cb engine? Seal retainers same as either or? Is this the one that has the cam that some are interested in as well?

I didn't see the TS stamp on the head, but I'll keep it just the same.

    Seal retainers are the same.

Cam should be the 2.5 TBI Roller.

Oil Pan is a good one, too - it's the same shape as the '89+ 2.5 t1, but it does NOT have the sound deadening material spot-welded in. So, it's lighter and it's easier to add baffling for racing. I have 2 of them I'm keeping for a future project.

Basically, a Tall Deck is the same as a CB, except for the deck height. And, except that the crank is different from the 2.5 CB in that the snout will fit the square tooth sprocket, and it's like 5 or more pounds heavier (not sure how/where it's got extra weight). I posted some pics of the TD next to a early block and a CB. The TD has the same strengthening as the CB. I've also heard that the TD can be bored 0.060" over (instead of 0.04" over). But, I've yet to have mine checked for max bore...
