I'm starting to wonder if there aren't Silver for the A/F, brown for the Army, Blue for the Navy, Green for the forest service, etc.... It makes sense, but since when does the government make sense?

    Mike

PS Any similarities on the VIN?

Guess I should have said 9th digit not 10th.

    Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon

Judging by the vin numbers these cars were not all made in a row. I have the VIN tags from two 88 C/S Daytonas and they have consecutive numbers for the last six of the VIN with the exception of the check digit, but that will always be random. I guess it could be that the different color cars came down different lines at the same time explaining the last six digits being so far off. What we need to find are the VINs from a few more of these cars to see if they have consecutive numbers.

Yes they were. The guy I talked to that was helping make them said they spent a two day period to just make this special run of turbo Ply wagons for the gov contract.

    Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon

    Sorry still no pictures, yet...

But I have managed to get an almost perfect dash pad, a pair of seats and tilt steering column from a Mark Cross Le Baron Vert (Thanks Alan!). It also had a very nice vacuum harness and over-flow bottle, both of which are in not-so-good shape on the wagon, but not for long!

This stuff plus a fresh coat of paint and we'll be looking almost new!

Brad's threats not withstanding, I don't think I could bring myself to change the color, the reason I wanted this car was because it was somewhat unique, changing the color would taint that for me, though I wouldn't mind if it were blue or silver (probably the coolest color these came in...).

Fact is, the color in the engine bay, doesn't look all that bad, kinda metallic-brown... I think I will do something with the wheels though, especially since they aren't the original covers... Though that might be an option for "everyday".

Right now I just have to get it Smog'd etc. Hopefully it won't rain....

Hey, Brad, I've changed my mind! I'm now going to paint it Sublime Green and loan it to your buddies in West Hollywood for their Gay Pride parade!

When you come out here, will you be bringing your own camshaft, or using a locally obtained one?

PS: When you do, bring that title with you!

    Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon

It's very cool that all these wagons are being found. When i worked at NAS Jacksonville 1995-2000 i used to see a white Reliant Wagon there and it had the factory Turbo Exhaust with the nice polished tip, but it didn't have the hood louvers and it was an 85. All they ever used that car for was taking laundry from the store to the main laundry building about 2 miles away.
