to cut or not to cut...

Here is my question. Next couple of weeks I'll have my 3.0 set into my 88 Daytona for mock up. I really want the turbo set over the trans and am debating on how high up in the compartment I'll sit it when I make my rear manifold. So I was thinking of finding a non turbo hood and cutting a slot out and rolling the lip so that the turbo snail sticks out just a little. Or maybe do it with my turbo hood? Otherwise I'll probably go with a cowl induction or a boost operated ram air design I've been toying with. Waddya guys think?

If you got to cut, use non turbo hood.

+2 lets face it, it could become scrap. I'm not counting out your fabrication skills. You must have some pretty good knowledge if your attempting this. BUT anything can happen.

I definately plan on using a non turbo hood... as soon as I can find one. I have 3 turbo hoods I'd be wiiling to trade one for a non turbo hood if within driving distance of Pocahontas, AR 72455

Looks like with my intake design (I'll be making it a little bit shorter) that I'll have to go full blown cowl. I may still add an air grabber to the cowl but don't know if it will help much with the back of the cowl being open and all. Probably be around a 4 or 5" cowl. Here's the intake that will have to fit under the hood. (or through it) lol

I see them now. Is there a reason you are making the runners so long? Should make for more TQ but less top end HP... I think, I could be wrong. I like how you are making them thou, very simple idea.

When I was getting my pieces together to build the intake I just guessed on the size of the runners. Afterwards I realized I had forgot to add in the extra length that the 2 mount plates made Which puts me around I'd say 3.5" from flange to flange. Probably most definately wont fit under the hood. I don't know yet cause I can't seem to find a V6 trans out here and get the drivetrain dropped in for my mockup.

if you need a cowl i have a harwood 4" rise that will fit nicely on a shadow hood (it looked bad azz on my 87 when i set it on there for s&G). i mocked to an omni hood but know one wanted to spend on the fiberglass hood (shock huh) i payed 150.00 plus shipping i would be willing to let it go for 75.00 plus shipping.

Wanting to bump this to the top. Stage 1 of my hood plan goes into effect in about 20 minutes And yes unfortunatley I'm using a turbo hood for mock up purposes. I have 4 of them now at my disposal.

    Pics asap.

Re: to cut or not to cut...

I really like that second pic. Gotta find me a flat hood though. The turbo bulge makes my cowl set wat too far off to the side... actually all the way on top of the passenger strut tower. Now if I could just find a non turbo hood around here...

Turismo will work, that's what I used for my current hood.
