Im starting a new project log to cover the restoration of my new 87 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z! I picked it up today at around 10 a.m. and drove it to the storage place where I will be doing all the work!
Ill start with the good! The body is COMPLETELY rust free! Floors are amazing and there is no body rust. Its a silver blue hardtop car, which I've been told is quite rare. The car runs and drives and even has a decent FMIC from a toyota supra! Car is nicely optioned. Enthusiast seats, power windows and locks, and the nice factory stereo.
Heres the bad: There is a slight knock coming from the motor :/.. The previous owner told me he thinks it needs rod bearings. Ideas on what else it could be? Also it only boosted to about 3-5 PSI (Granger might be adjusted for that) and the tach doesn't work. The passenger side power window crank is broke and the interior needs a good cleaning.
Plans for the car: Cleaning and re-installing the interior is the first thing im going to tackle, hopefully this weekend. Next Im going to attempt to do a rod bearing swap if I can find some decent tools for cheap! If all goes good and the knock is gone, Im going to do a full tune-up (plugs, oil change, vacuum lines, etc.). After that Ill probably do a nice side-exit exhaust and bump the boost up a little.
