520 shifter cable: plastic joint on end of cable available?

While doing my TII conversion I noticed that one of the plastic joints on the end of the shifter cable comes off the ball fairly easily. Are these parts available to replace?

    thanks!

I think they are molded right onto the end of the cable. You'd need to get a new cable.

There is some kind of clip that you can get for then ball-type, but I don't know if it is "sold separately". I remember getting them with the new cables we put on an A525 a long time ago. It should be fairly easy to fashion something.

I think the clip is avalible seperatly and they will never fall off again.

    Clay:
I found an electrical zip-tie to be easier to install (and remove with side-cutters too).

Yeah that works pretty well, for a while. With all that movement they can wear through and break when you least expect it. After a couple of failures I switched to safety wire. Just drilled a small hole on either side of the socket so the wire runs straight. Plus, racing wire looks more profesional.

As I recall, my dad made a steel L-bracket that screwed into the arm to keep the cable on there. This was an A520 with the later style cables (no ball joint on the main cable, but the crossover cable still had a ball that kept popping off).

haha yeah the transmission shop that I had rebuild my tranny reinstalled it with zip ties. Hell I had to tighten up the ball that the cable socket pops onto. Lazy asses. I couldn't figure out why my shifter would move at least a half inch side to side IN GEAR....well that was it....

Ziptie here as well. Thats how it was when I bought the car and has worked great so far. Just did the trans swap and put a new ziptie on.

How are you guys putting the zip ties on the cable end? are you actually put it around the "shoulder" on the plastic joint and then around the shifter mechanism?

Mine is just after the plastic peice that rests on the shift selector. Tight enough to hold it down, but loose enough not to put stress on it.
