    Team Shelby Weekend

It has been in the planning since last years event when about 30 TS members did the cruise/luncheon/track. It has grown into a real event-Printed color flyers, sponsored meal (thanks Shelby Autos Inc) a bunch of giveaways, shirts, goody bags-all the swag.
Today, first day was a meet at a 'private' car collection/museum. Holy Smokes there were some nice rides in there! For $500/month you can keep a car stored there but the best part is you have use of the 'clubhouse' Bar, pool table, bigscreen TV's, overstuffed leather chairs and couches the whole shebang Ivite 35 freinds over for vids and pool no problem. the $500. a month-a little tougher to handle So after a few hours of caviar and Perrier sparkling waters, 2 Shelby Dodges (my GLHS and Larry M's very clean CSX VNT) and 50+ '04 and up Shelby Fords took off outta there around noon to cruise up Hwy 2 Angeles Crest Hwy and have lunch at historic Newcombs Ranch. Photo shoots and all that jazz were the tasks of the day. Tomorrow is THE day though The Big oval track at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, the fastest track in the country with 17degree banked turns mean you never have to lift To keep these clowns from killing themselves, they take one of the corners out of the equasion and you gotta dip into the infield for a couple hairpin turns and some esses. On the track layout map it looks interesting

Since last January when the S had a less than stellar showing at the Vegas Shelby owned track it's had a few upgrades Sweet adjustable Cam gears that Todd Nelso had made, Adjustable Camber plates by Rich Bryant, rear wheeel spacers by Omni-Potent (Greg), 86PPH injectors and a new cal, and a 3 liter breather box i coblled together to keep the valve cover gasket from seeping oil every time I drove it hard. So far everything is working bitchen and I ran the whole day at a conservative 14PSI boost. Tomorrow at the track I'll crank it up some...

Best of luck Alan. I will say that I can't let you use the word "bitchin'" in a post without posting a pic of you back when that word was in it's heyday.

    Re: Team Shelby Weekend

All in all a great day! That track is the MOST FUN I have ever had with my GLHS EVER! The big oval is equal parts fear/panic/adrenalin The fastest 800+HP modded Super Snake Shelby was seeing an indicated 148MPH But his track tires are on smaller rims than stock so he thought the speedo was 5% optimistic. In the GLHS I saw exactly 128 Apparantly when the cal was created using the stock TC Masi cal as the template-we neglected to remove the top speed limiter The only cool part about that was not only did I hit the limiter about 1/2 way thru the front strait, I also was hitting it on the relatively short infield strait when I got as good drive off corner four That Super Snake was hitting 110 on that infield strait. You guys are gonna think I wussed out, but I had to turn the boost down from 18 to 16 after the first session. There was way too much wheelspin (through 4th!) to lay the power into the 205/50/15 Toyo Proxis RA1's at 18PSI. Sounds absurd but that's what happened I need to try this set up at 24PSI on the dragstrip, the GT35 moves some air! So the fastest car of our 18 Shelbys was the aformentioned Snake (he was on full race slicks and I was on the street tires I drove 175 miles on the Saturday mountain cruise portion of the event.) with a 2:01, I had a best of 2:22 after the first 20 minute track session. After an hour break (and the other rungroups had their sessions) the 'red' group was up again. Now that I knew the track and which corners were best in 2'nd and which I was gonna use 3rd on, I was pretty certain I could shave 5+ seconds in this second session. First lap, warm the tires, second lap 2:17 and I wasn't at 10/10ths yet, third lap, getting a good run, a ZO6 was behind me and I was just about to show him my 125MPH infield strait trick and BLAM-no more transmission. No gears at all. Rolled to a stop and had to be towed back to the pits, went home on a flatbed towtruck. That's racing...

You think the input shaft let go? Too bad on the limiter. It would have been cool to see that thing doing 140 on the straight.
